I'll have to destroy Adam (as usual) later. I have errands to run but I'll leave everyone with these.
Food Inc. (Can't find a free link on youtube) and this one below...for starters.
I watched this documentary. While it convinced me Monsanto uses very aggressive techniques to increase profits (including many things most would deem immoral: lying, coercing, etc.), there's little information about the safety of GM crops, which is the issue I'm interested in.
That Monsanto basically tried to bury some evidence against rBGH was probably the strongest point of the documentary, and along with some evidence of bribes, government manipulation, etc. shows the company is apparently willing to go quite some distance to promote its products, despite knowing about problems. That said, the fact is rBGH was shown to cause some problem with cows, the result of which introduced puss into milk, which, in turn, necessitated farmer's feed the cows antibiotics. It was never established what effect these antibiotics had on people, nor was this really Monsanto's direct responsibility -- as far as I know, the farmers were the ones pumping their cows with pills.
This honestly doesn't strike me as that big of a deal. And besides that, there was no evidence any of their transgenic crops were in any way harmful to human health, or anything to suggest these crops weren't immensely beneficial to consumers. As for the plight of the farmers (which is the basic concern of the documentary's last third), well, call me callous, but I don't really give a shit.
