I only rent games through Gamefly so this news about used games completely infuriates me

it makes sense from a business standpoint, they don't make any money off gamers that only rent or borrow

Yup - sounds like a big f u to Gamefly, but only if it actually turns out to be true.  From Major Nelson's blog:  http://majornelson.com/

alienating a massive portion of your target market does *not* make sense from a business standpoint. in the long run customer loyalty will make you way more money than a blatant cash grab like this.

I'm hoping they discuss it more at E3 on June 10th. I really need to know if gamefly still has use with this system. The only games I actually purchase are Madden and NBA 2K every year. I rent upwards of 25 games a year on gamefly and play through them until I beat them

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but head of Microsoft studios just went on record stating that at E3 there will be a huge Xbox 360 announcement.....  Not Xbox one , but for the current gen Xbox , dunno if that means they be releasing another model or what exactly.

that portion of the market spends almost zero dollars on their products, they don't care if they are upset because they aren't considered "loyal" customers

most money is made from the software not the hardware, if you aren't buying the games new they aren't getting any money from you

they wanted everything to be digital downloads but there is still too many people living in bumfuck nowhere with dial up internet connection, so used games will be fazed out for good when the next console comes around

sure they still spend money. They bought the console didnt they? Tons of people pay for xbox live right? What about accessories? An xbox customer makes money for Microsoft. Its not all about used games.

not sure but i think they lose money with each console sale, at least they used to

they make money from selling software (games)

people get xbox live for 12 bucks a year so it's not a lot especially when most only buy one game a year like call of duty or madden

Where have you been Earl? A year membership to live is at least $55 bucks now. Maybe more then that. 12 bucks will get you a 1 month pass. Lol

Earl's right.  Only morons pay the price you quoted.  There's routinely cards available for $35 for the year, in addition to the methods Earl mentioned.

I mean honestly if you spec up a good PC - realistically you won't need to upgrade your graphics card for at least two to three years, thats not outrageous

We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One and wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we’ve confirmed today. While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail.

Beyond that, we have not confirmed any specific scenarios.

Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend’s house – should you choose to play your game at your friend’s house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile.

Pay attention to the bolded portions......

1-Trade and resell your game at retail- Where? How? Through what service? If MS begins a game trading (i.e. license or permission) market on Xbox Live they have taken Gamestop etc. out of the loop. Maybe there is some way around it or some accommodation that will be made, who knows. Still not clear at all.

2-Should you choose to play your game at your friends house, no fee to play if you are on your profile- This is huge....if this is true then you will not be able to lend games to friends like you use to be able to do. You really don't own the game you paid for. If true, this is MS telling us that we do not own anything that we paid for, we simply are leasing it and it really isn't ours. I'm hoping this goes to the courts in some way because it has consumer implications for more than just video games.

Connect the dots with #1 -#2 and you see the plan, you can lend the game to a friend but they will have to pay retail to play it.

If this is true, and I hope to dear God that it isn't, I will not be purchasing the new Xbox. If Sony swoops in and is more consumer friendly and doesn't fuck with us consumers like MS seems to be doing in this situation then Sony will have my money next generation.

Exactly. I have always been an Xbox guy (on the recent console gens) but I will glady give a big FU to Microsoft, if this turns out to be true.

You are correct BIG A, my work is on computer repair and upgrades just keep a decent graphics card until it does not work for your needs. I only upgrade hardware when required, don't bite the bait of Merchants trying to sell you something new.

If a console is going 7-8 years now, that's three PC upgrades over the lifecycle.
