From a policeman

I know first hand accounts of worse, worked next to a squatter camp

Do you have evidence to back up your story from your policeman friend?
I wasnt going to ask but you seem to be pushing it as truth so why not?

People always tell stories to empasise a point but most of them are analogies not truth.

People die the same or worse every day.

That's just one example, why would I have bothered to ask him for more evidence? The details might be different, but this stuff happens and to foreingers as well as they are more naive.

The guy sees murders almost every day, different world.

Yes, I'm South Africa.

I cringe when I see how naive some of the tourists are....they are from a different world.

Also traveled with Europeans to third world countries and they believe everyone is as good natured as their homelands haha

They even get pissed off at my alertness and precautions, but then again I used to hear daily stories of people dying horrifically so it was ingrained in my mind. I KNOW what people are capable of and don't trust any stranger. They everyone is automatically 'good'.

You ALWAYS have to keep looking over your shoulder and make eye-contact and acknowledge everyone. What the other people doing around you? Take note, think.
Eventually, you learn to do it without even thinking.

Know a story where a policeman detective picked up an English girl who was hitchhiking, he told her she is lucky she was not dead and to never ever do this again......she shrugged at him as if he didn't know anything.
A few days later he investigated her BODY lying like trash.
Gang raped to DEATH.

I try explain this stuff to English and European people but they are oblivious, their liberal propaganda has given them an illusion of the reality outside their sheltered borders.

heh yeah, i'm from russia originally, now live in the states so my family definitely have that "don't trust anyone" mindset ingrained. and yeah, it's amazing how many people are naive about shit like that. it gets to me when they act like you're the crazy one, too. i had some non-car owning, ride-mooching friends who were talking shit about how i'm paranoid about locking my car and taking all the valuables out of it, like "who's gonna steal your car man?". and then i told them the story about how i got MY FUCKING CAR STOLEN IN THE SAME GODDAMN TOWN three years ago. that shut them the hell up.

yeah i hear some crazy shit about south africa. there's this british guy on youtube that i like, told some stories about living in swaziland during apartheid. apparently he went to this boarding school and they had to molotov cocktail-proof their windows.

Westerners are naive as hell.  And the press is largely at fault.   An ex gf of mine was travelling thru India with her female friend and they were basically kidnapped and taken to a shed in the middle of nowhere, and told to "give it up" or they would be left there to rot.

They refused to comply and the guys let them go after several days.  THEY WERE LUCKY.

Tell a story like this to a young chick about to travel to Asia with the intent of protecting her, and watch the stupid look on her face... she thinks you are making it up or something.

I myself was taken to a "dark room" in the Thailand/Malaysia border by two border guards and experienced attempted extortion and threats. I handled it OK and got out with a bribe.   Imagine how many chicks would handle that.

For anyone who wants to travel on their own, I can't emphasise how important this is. In Britain people are conditioned to respect others' privacy, and that means barely registering what goes on around you. Otherwise you might easily be thought of as "nosy", etc.

After having stuff stolen from me a few times while travelling the world, I started being much more conscious of what people do around me in public places.

Regarding what happened in Woolwich yesterday... I am glad it didn't happen sooner. Our intelligence services are doing their job, they prevent attacks like these, even though this particular type of attack, involving "lone-wolf" type terrorists is notoriously hard to prevent.

So who was the victim? How do the perps and the vic know each other, or do they know each other?
"Likely a terrorist act", means that they don't know...

They didn't know each other. It's a case of two crazed guys driving outside the barracks looking for someone who looked like a member of the armed services to hack to death.

Was in Guyana about 7 years back, and some guy must have overheard me chatting to a market stall holder about wanting to visit a nearby attraction. He walks over to me and offers to drop me there is his car, which, as I look over to check has another 2 guys sitting in the back. I say "Ok great, let's go" and walk over to the car, open the back door and tell the 2 shits in the back seat to get out because their buddy's taking me to (xyz). Would you believe it! The driver starts acting very strange and insists that we can only go if all 3 of them take me hahaha, I got extremely pissed off as it was obvious at that point they were planning to hold me up. I stopped short of anything other than grabbing a shirt, when I realised i'm in a 3rd world country and likely to be thrown in jail for 5 years for anything  ;D

Yes, admittedly my description of 'I know a story' was a bit shit but this is getbig so I just write what first pops into my head even.
Though I do personally have an old police friend and do believe him and have met a few detectives, one which I was told by my police friend spent a third of his salary on booze, probably due to the work.

But if anyone speaks to a person in a third world country and mentions the idea of a single young women or man hitchhiking and they will say it is common sense that she or anyone should not be doing this as the chances of getting raped, murdered or at least robbed is very high.

I think the same applies to parts of South America as well where the situation is the same or worse.

it is a reference to a film called Bad Boy Bubby (which I imagine a toolbag like you has never heard of), and is self deprecatory (can you understand the meaning of the word? - if not google it  :-*).
