Bob was a gimmick at PRIDE.  The Japanese audiences like that kind of spectacle and Bob liked to get paid.

Bob gets paid well to throw fights. He had an interview with Helwani where he admitted it. He doesnt want to put his long term health at risk so after eating a few shots he turtles up. Loses the fight but wins at the bank.
