Chuck Liddell was in Brazil a couple of weeks ago helping the UFC promote the UFC on FOX 8 event which took place in Jaraguá do Sul, Santa Catarina.

He was asked by O Globo’s Gustavo Noblat about a theoretical fight between him and middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Liddell didn’t miss a beat, showing the same confidence he had in the era when he ruled the light-heavyweight division.

“I would beat him, I always said that I would. I have the advantage in weight and height, so it would be more likely that I would beat him,” he said. “ But Anderson is one of my favorite fighters.”

As for a hypothetical fight with Chael Sonnen, who recently failed to take the light-heavyweight crown from Jon Jones, Liddell was even more emphatic. “Sonnen has nothing to offer me (in terms of risk).”

Liddell is of course retired and won’t be coming back any time soon. The former light-heavyweight champion ruled his weight class with iron fists from 2005 to 2007 and made four title defences.

As is the way of this sport, eventually Liddell declined as other fighters came up and between mid-2008 to 2010 he was knocked out three times in three fights, ending his career on an 0-3 run. He had to be forced into retirement by Dana White, his former manager, and how ostensibly has a job as an executive with Zuffa.

Actually, the advantage in height and weight is negligible.  Anderson is a big boy.   He didn't look small next to Griffin.

I am a huge Liddell fan but he is so wrong. I think he is definitley a lot tougher than Anderson but sooner or later Anderson would defeat him.

Didn't Liddell G'out(ghb) on a morning tv show a few years back? If he isn't 100% punch drunk, then the drugs and booze seem to be playing with his reality :-\

Lol! Rashad Evans knocked Lidell into next week!  Lidell would only have a good punchers chance. He would have been outclassed in every discipline.

Liddell would have had very little chance of defeating Silva.

Silva's stand-up game is much too strong for Liddell, that and Silva's ground game is way too advanced for Liddell.

Chuck was getting worked by Pele, a poor man's Silva. Don't see how he beats Anderson...

I will give Liddell credit. He had superb takedown defense. He was able to neutralize even the best wrestlers such as Ortiz, and Couture this way.

Agreed.

His takedown defense was great, but Anderson never goes to the ground unless he has to. Anderson likes to pick his opponents apart while standing, but if they decide to take it to the ground, he does have a black belt in JiuJitsu that comes into play.

Silva is the man but I wouldn't count Chuck out.  He had some very heavy hands and could have KO'd Anderson.  Silva would probably have won but we'll never know for sure.

Exactly why I said punchers chance. Just like Mark Hunt had against Dos Santos.
