The belt system use to be really hard BJJ when there was only three schools in the US. One in NY, NJ and California. That was it. The school I went to only had two belts. Craig Kukuk and Renzo Gracie at the time wouldn't give out any others besides white and blue. Some called the belt purple. Some of the white belts going for 6 months at the time could have seriously kicked ass since almost all martial artists realized you needed a ground game. A matter of fact the school was filled with black belts from other arts because they saw UFC one and two. They were tapping quick like every other beginner.
Justin's belt could have been given to him by a grateful instructor who was paid a lot of money or he actually has traveling mat partners on the road.
