i don't think they "got along" per se. it was more a matter of mutual interests, japan and germany were both scared shitless of the rapidly expanding soviet union, and japan wanted to reclaim it's interests in asia from the imperial usa and uk, also wanted to attack the usa for imposing economic sanctions on them which was stifling their economy.
