Have walker and arnold been edited out in those last 2 group shots?
Funny how arnold is as wide as Mike stood in the background

What do you mean? They are both in each pic

I cropped Mike out of a photo and removed the background. On his own he looks great.

I found another photo I took from the 1980 Mr Olympia. Marks are from plastic covering.

Mike wins this lat spread comparison.

Same pose, another shot-Arnold dwarfs everyone including Mike.

Meaning people compare him too much to previous showings when he wasn't competing with that but other bodybuilders who he still smoked.

What do you mean?

This is a great comparison, as is the one by Vince of the back lat spread. Mentzer looked great next to Arnold in the back lat spread. Better hamstrings, calves equal, Mentzer's arms looked better, back about equal.
Agree that Mentzer's hamstrings and arms look better in that pose but Arnold's calves and shoulders look better. Back looks about equal in this picture ,although in other similar shots Arnold's back looks clearly superior.
And Mentzer's glutes a way too big and soft (no homo  Grin )

1980 - Was it the best version of Arnold that Day - No

Was he the Best on that Stage that day - Yes - Close call
Others were good.

Just as well Arnold was not at his Best - Some competitors
May of ended up committing Suicide - As he would of
Completely overshadowed them.

They couldn't handle the loss as it was.

They should of gone away & come back better as
Arnold did after his loss to Zane & Sergio.

The 1980 Mr. Olympia is definitely the most debated contest ever. I just saw a video by Norm Komich recently and I can understand why it was so controversial. Norm was at the show and he filmed it from the balcony using his video camera. Arnold's legs were really down in size and there were a lot of guys who were in top shape. Zane, Mentzer, Coe, Walker, Callendar and Dickerson were all peaked and ripped. The fact that Arnold didn't let anyone know he was competing and he also had friends on the judging panel (Reg Park, Albert Busek, Mits) created a lot of resentment from all the top competitors. Looking at it from Norm's video (and not pictures, which don't always tell the story), you can see the big weakness in Arnold's legs. Although he still looked great for the limited amount of time training for the show, a lot of the audience and all the other competitors didn't feel like he deserved the victory because he had a glaring weak point (just like Franco did one year later). Like Zane said after the contest, when you have had a layoff that long and you only train for a couple months, the strong bodyparts (Arnold's arms, chest, back) are going to come back quick but his weaker muscle groups (legs, delts) are going to lag behind.

And Sergio, in great shape, was not there.. Sergio looks great in 1980 in both contests when he defeated Kalman and Bertil..

Sergio would have crushed Arnold in 1980.

Interesting to have beaten Arnold on his Olympua debut and final one  on your resume.

Would've been so easy for Oliva.

Just from them pics I'd say Sergio would of won
That being said had Sergio of been competing that year
Arnold would've either prepared better & for longer
Or just not of competed.

To be fair i dont even think a prime Ronnie would have beat Arnold at that show, same way he wouldn't have beaten Franco in 81, they were scripted.

If Arnold lost the 1980 Olympia this would not have been his last contest, that's for sure. He would have come back in 1981 at his best.

I've seen this video as well. Being shot from the balcony it gives a distorted perspective of how the physiques looked(heads closer to the camera, legs further away etc.).And this affects Arnold the most as he was the tallest competitor. The other videos and pictures taken from behind the judges table give much better perspective.
