Cheick Kongo making his way to Bellator along with Rampage Jackson

Rumors have been swirling that Cheick Kongo's departure from the UFC was leading him toward a Bellator contract, and now it appears that those rumors have been confirmed. MMA Weekly reports that sources close to the heavyweight fighter can confirm that he has signed a contract with the Viacom promotion.

It's a little surprising considering how vehement Kongo was in denying his separation from the UFC. Following his exit he initially took to Facebook, looking to dispel reports that he had been cut and/or released from his UFC contract.

Exactly. The fact that they always grab leftovers works for UFC's advantage from image stand point of view.

Contracts, at least for those two, are MUCH bigger than the UFC. Win or lose, they're both a big draw. Contract was offered, Kongo said no. Simple as that.

I believe Bellator offered more to Kongo than UFC. Which is not hard - UFC probably offered next to nothing after such poor performances.

I am not knocking cheick.. But these guys that do this are just trying to be competitive in a lesser organization.. If you can't be competitive in the ufc then just drop out and retire.. Why choose to compete at a lesser org..?  Ego ?

Its all about the $$$. He had an 8 year run in the UFC. I domt think hes worried about xomp. Otherwise he woildnt have called out Nelson.
