I can't decide how I feel about this yet.

On the one hand, I'd want any terrorist rooted out and found. (I have nothing to hide with my phone calls.)

On the other hand, fuck the government and getting into our business. And you can bet if a Republican were in office right now, the criticism would be 10 times worse!

Finally, I don't like skinny fucking nerds who think they are that important. Is this guy really doing it to be a good American, or doing it to prove how clever he is exposing something? Like that Wikileaks nerd, you just want to punch this clown.

I don't agree that the criticism would be worse with a conservative.  In certain circles that is true. These policies originate from the bush era and many of the proponents and individuals in incolved in shaping these policies are conservatives.  The real scandal is that people are just clueing in on to this stuff now.

Trust me on this. If a Republican were in office right now, the fallout from this would be ten-fold.

The classic & naive "nothing to hide" line. Then why not tape your phone calls and share them with all of us?

But this stuff was happening then as well and there didnt seem to be any fallout from it.  I'm not trying to make this partisan.  It stinks and is wrong regardless of who is doing it but I do think this recent uproar is partly politically motivated, at least on the part of the republican establishment. Its insulting to our intelligence when the republicans feign concern for privacy. When republicans get into office they won't change anything.

To be honest, I don't understand why he chose HK which is known to have an agreement with state of USA to return asylum seekers and other person on wanted list!
There are plenty of countries which don't have such an agreement.

American professor today in washington post:

"If he were advising Snowden, Blakesley says he would tell him to go to Iceland (where Snowden has hinted he may be headed) or to France. Sweden, Finland, or another Nordic country would do in a pinch; Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway all adhere to a similar extradition model, and are, according to Blakesley, “very independent and strong in protecting folks in situations such as this.”

Oh, do I?
The "nothing to hide" phase sounds like an approval to be tapped by people, whose intentions are unknown to you. You have absolutely no control about what happens with this information. You're OK with this, just because 'they' represent your government?

The interesting thing on the keiser report was this pic from 2011 showing Obama in a meeting with the heads of all the tech giants, and surprise surprise 2 years later you find out these companies have been passing private info to the government.

people that don't think Apple, Facebook, Twitter etc... all share info are delusional.  Fuck Ron probably shares our info with NSA.

it's slowly turning into an Us vs. Them scenario with the gov.

So this is jabbing at Obama when it is a law and project funded and started by Bush and Co.?

What the fuck is wrong with America?  This is not a dem or republican think.  This is an overall American Gov. thing.

He'd certainly be less irritating.

He's IS a little irritating.  What's more irritating, though, is how so many media talking heads are doing their best to talk shit about him.  I'm not talking about criticizing his patriotism which is certainly a debatable subject, I'm talking about how they keep referring to him as "High school dropout Edward Snowden".  It's fucking retarded;  First, he was making $200,000 a year (which most COLLEGE grads would be happy to make) and 2nd, If he's this high school dropout loser, then what does it say about the competency of the intelligence outfit that let him have so much access to so much info in 3 short months?  (And this is the big problem I have with the gov't gathering so much info about people who've done nothing wrong; The gov't is letting too many have access to the info.)

He's now "disappeared" according to the latest news stories. Still in Hong Kong apparently - they know he hasn't left, but no-one knows where he's gone.

Big deal.  This kind of stuff has been happening since 2001 when congress signed in the Patriot Act.

It is a pretty big deal when it's happening right in front of our eyes and no-one seems to be doing a damn thing about it.

That's right...  It is irrelevant if it happened under Bush because there was no proof then.. But now the world has proof of what the USA government is doing.
