Man gains 60 pounds of muscle from working construction
« on: June 21, 2013, 03:02:31 AM »
Why do people think fat builders are well built or "stocky"?from another forum

"Since I started fin I have gained 60lbs of muscle(went from 140lbs to 200). As a note however, I also became a heavy lifting construction worker and I got married so I eat a lot more (wife cooks meals). I am actually fairly toned now as opposed to the smallest(skinny wise) guy I know from before.

Not saying its all fin, but it at the very least didn't hurt."

Sounds like he just got fat.
I always lose weight despite eating more when i return to work after our winter quiet period.
Truly hard construction work makes weight gain near impossible.

My cousin is fat and tried his hand at being a builder and have actually worked a few jobs with him and he always had an afternoon nap in a wheelbarrow.

And I learned to run 100m in under 10 secs from working as courier during my teen years.

was he like 17-18 years old when he started?

ive had this discussion, males often gain a lot of weight (even muscle) from late teens to early twenties without doing much, and make great gains with consistent workouts, even if they do everything 'wrong'. some skinny, underfed kid who starts exercising and actually eating enough can easily gain that weight, if they have the frame. this dude probably just had a normal growth spurt all males do. and saying he's 'fairly toned' lol.  probably means he actually just filled in what was an emaciated frame. and obv he's probably a slob as well.

I'll say one thing about construction laborers. They are in general in good shape. Just think about their work life style. They are on their feet for 10 to 14 hours. Constantly bending and picking up stuff. Carrying things. Digging ditches. Walking the site. Tough guys in general.

Now lets look at the typical getbigger. Drives to work and once there sits on his ass. When not working he is sitting watching tv/computer or playing video games. He drives every where. Hardly walks at all. His only cardio is walking on a treadmill at a pace he doesn't realize is slower that what normal people walk down the street. He works out in the gym for an hour 4 times a week but his life is so non moving that even this can't make up for his modern non moving life of rest.  Don't tell me intensity is enough to make the difference. That's why perma bulkers have become such a big percentage of guys into bodybuilding. They are just fat out of shape guys carrying some muscle underneath.

couldnt agree more. A very large percentage of men wouldnt last a day as a labourer to the heavier of building trade. People dont know what its like till they try it.

These construction guys will regret their career choice once they hit 40+.

You can be perfectly healthy having a non physical sedentary job.

...and let me add, just because you work a physical job, does not mean you are healthy. Plenty smoke, stuff their face, do rec. drugs, and alcohol, not to mention the stress of having deadlines and pushing yourself physically on a regular basis can fuck with your health all on its own.

My neighbour was a healthy fella, played sports, was a mail man for many years walking was basically his job.

He quickly without warning signs, got a brain tumour and a heart attack and died soon after.

No guarantees in life, just try to enjoy it while you can.

Good for you! What line of construction are you in?

Worked on and off for many years on building and high rise construction sites, some of the best guys around are blue collar, tough old work with long hours but you can't beat the banter and practical jokes, I'll never forget the time we were laying pipe in Queensland out in the countryside, it was 6.00am and I went in to the portaloo for a dump, fucking excavator operator thought it would be cute to connect the portaloo to his Toyota Landcruiser and do doughnuts around the site with me still inside!  ;D guy, I got him back a few days later by "accidentally" electrocuting him with the jeeper gun, fun times.

edit : sorry, misinterpreted, it's from another forum.

THis is where you're off base. A True GetBigger doesn't go to work. He lives in his mom's basement.

It's hilarious when a fat man has to hustle for a change.  Pulling up his pants every 3rd step and jiggling all over the place.  Maybe you should join a road crew, tubby.

Even though they're all go, keen as mustard, world's hardest worker to get the job.  ::)  Wish I had back the money I wasted on these assholes.  Even more, wish I had back the time.

In all seriousness, never hire a man over 20% bf or under age 25.  And never EVER a guy with a sob story about why he really needs the work.

Ive heard the same thing "best grafter in the world, work hard all day ect ect" then you get them on a job and they are fucking useless. Nothing more pathetic than watching a grown man struggling mightily to break the soil with a shovel and 20 minutes later his wheelbarrow is only quater full.

Done manual work for years, humbling for sure. I need several grams of caffeine each day to keep going. It can feel like the best job or the worst job in the world but it's kept me lean mentally strong. couldn't imagine office work/sales etc. Hard graft makes you despise lazy/fat people :s

And forget Keto if your planning on construction work  :P

that's what i'm guessing.

140 - 200. prob about 5'11 - 6'1. went from anorexic skinny to just filling out the frame.

as a construction worker, i agree with you more than the others. for every guy in decent shape from work, there are dozen with some combination of alcoholism, drug addiction, and injuries like a bad back, a shoulder they cant raise above chin level, bad knee, etc.  many are either skinny tweakers or have a huge beer gut.  lets not even get into how many have criminal records, or are straight up cheats and liars when it comes to the work they do or dealing with a client.
