This is "bike sharing". Bike stations, Bloomberg's (with help) creation...helping to alleviate congestion. in the city. Rich people say that they (bike riders) terrorize the city.

Tbh I don't think cyclists should be allowed on roads.  I'm tired of going around the guy who makes no effort to hug the edge, double yellow, no idea what's coming the other way.  Cycling clubs riding 2-3 wide so they can talk to their spandex buddy.  Wtf, I'm driving here.

They don't have an equal right to the road.  A road is for motorized vehicles moving at high speed, and making them move into the oncoming traffic lane to get around someone on a push bike is retarded.  Cyclists on a road are at risk themselves and create danger for motorists.  So get the fuck off the road.

I've also rode on roads, just a few times.  Hated it.  I see drivers every day drifting and swerving around because they're fucking with the radio, texting, fishing for something on the floor, getting a blowjob, whatever.  One of those guys at the right time and you're jelly.  Why would anyone even want to ride on a road?

It's one of those things that seems like it might be a good idea, but in practice, it's doomed in New York. The rich hate it because it blocks there views and direct access to their buildings, regular folks hate it because it either blocks off tons of useable sidewalk or tons of driving and parking space. They'll all be gone in a couple of years, the only people that really use them are the hipsters and occasionally a poor person will jack one for a bit.

when i rode my mountan bike itd be shirtless and i always looked like shit but it was fun and definitly not gay, id just wear some shorts but not some spandex race tagged shit THAT IS GAY

i always peddled off road unless i absolutley didnt see cars. most of the time i would bike going towards traffic to see who is coming rather than trusting a DRIVER coming up behined me

ive always wanted a mountain bike with huge fucking tires for when you have to off road so you dont put yourself in danger or annoy people driving

Been watching a lot of his vids.  Clever guy, great attitude, awesome skills.  I'm probably going to plunk down some cash for a lathe and mig/stick unit this week if I can manage to stop hemming & hawing about capacities and capabilities.

Can't believe you recognized.  You like his stuff?

Love him on YouTube. I am from a family of metalworkers but am stuck on the 44th floor of an apartment at the moment so I get my shop fix watching him and others.

What kind of lathe you looking at? How much space do you have to play with?

It's your basic chinese.  I can't get Grizzy here but probably would have bought one since online reviews seem generally favorable.  I suspect, however, that I might have the same models available with slightly different facing.

This one seems like a lot of machine for the money.  I'm just hoping it runs as advertised.  I can't exactly afford to go out and buy a Clausing for project work tho, so I have to keep to what I can afford.  Probably going to try basic milling on it as well (keyway cutting) so I don't drop the same money again, or more, on a milling machine.

http://www.machineryhouse.com.au/L682D

It's a gap bed with pretty decent size and thread cutting capabilities for the money, I think.  DRO (not sure how good) comes with it and a few other bits of fruit.  The post is probably garbage but it'll at least get me out the starting gate.

Space is limited.  1/2 a garage since the other half is floor to ceiling with racking.  First project will be a work/welding table, probably 4x4'.  I'd like it to be able to accomodate future tools like a sheet brake, maybe a roll bender, pipe bender, and maybe (somehow) plasma cutting with downdraft.  Hydraulic press is also on the soon to do list since I'll be needing to press fit bearings.

If you have any advice for someone just getting a kit together, and with no formal training, I'm all ears!

I have a buddy who hit and killed a girl on a bike last summer. It was a winding unlit road, and he hit her.  He wasn't speeding or anything.  It was after 1030 at night and he hit her.  I do not think it's okay, but that is why I personally don't ride road bikes, because even if you are not at fault of an accident, it really does not matter as you are probably going to die.  All the bike riders lash out about how they have rights to the road, but that's not the point, you're taking your life into your own hands.

That sucks.  Good reason not to mix low speed and high speed traffic.

Thinking about it, I've seen some pretty wobbly cyclists too.  Had a job a few months ago where I had to drive up a couple mile hill that was popular with morning riders.  Some of them were going slow fighting the hill and weaving all over the place.  Twisty road, sunrise glare, shaded spots you can't see into past the glare.  I was worrying.

A few bikes are ok.
It's mostly "holier than thou" bike nerds who're causing trouble in dense city traffic.

I'm a road bike user and a car driver, so I can reasonably see both sides of the coin. When I ride my bike, I use my experience as a driver to adjust what i'm doing in a lot of situations. When I'm passing a cyclist, I make sure to almost touch them with my wing mirror, because as a cyclist I've always wondered how scary that would feel.

It's basically an adrenaline sport anyway, roadriding.  Good on ya.

Haha true, one thing i've learned about road biking, is never to let my wife know just HOW close some of the 'close ones' were. If she actually knew about the times where I felt the wind of a truck's side mirror blast past my ear at 60mph, my bike would be sold on ebay before I even got home  :o

Just as I always suspected.  You're a lunatic.

I rode in London because I was too poor to buy a car and too young to care about consequences.  Miracle I came out of there in one piece.  Seriously, I would find a nice lake to bike around, or a pleasant wooded area with chirping birds and shit.  I don't know how you can put it out of your mind, one of these assholes after another coming up behind you.  Have you not been to the licensing department?!

Hahaha, you're not far off buddy  ;D

I don't ride in London, however (I do have some desire for longevity in life!) mostly around Essex, which is very rural if you pick your routes well. There's something I can't get anywhere else when it comes to cycling....it's the feeling of going 25-40mph downhill, or cruisng along at 20-25mph knowing it's just your legs powering the ride, I don't know. I couldn't even enjoy being on a Honda Fireblade doing 150+mph as much as I do cycling  ???
