You mention diet changes in Japan. I'm working on a project right now involving the changing Japanese diet and its effects on disease, obesity, heart disease and life expectancy. It's the second of two presentations I'm preparing for phd consideration.

I used to work with this Korean woman, attractive. She died of stomach cancer. She ate more traditional Korean diet full of seafood. I think I remember reading that Asians have a high stomach cancer rate.
Also, I think that the Western diet is responsible for excellerated growth in terms of height for Asians. It's not uncommon to see a 6 foot Asian male over here. Maybe the body/genetics gets a shock of some sort from all the hormones and protein content in Western Food?
When I was at the Cherokee Reservation, they had stated that it was not uncommon in George Washington's day for Indians to be 6 feet tall, this was due in part to the large amount of protein. Now contrast that to Amerindians from the Mayan, Incan, and Aztec stock. They were short, stocky, wide waists, and ate a lot of maize based products---carbs. They had a lot fat around their waists, and of course due to their Asian lineage, flat booty.
Then look at the Polynesians...
