Seeing as I have never seen one of these before, nor heard of their use for actual training, what purpose do they serve? It seems like the risk/reward isn't high enough to me.
And Wiggs, were you a state level runner? The highest I was clocked was at 22 mph back in high school doing state 400s, and I was still getting beat. Funny, track is the only reason I wish I had done the college route some times. I was noticeably faster at 22-23 than I was at 17-18.
The theory is that the faster you run (on that treadmill) the greater the speed in a sprint or off the line or a 40 time or power (forced application). But I don't buy it, either your fast or you're not. If you're an advanced athlete, like a college athlete, the only thing that can really take time off is mechanics efficiency, meaning, relax, good arm action (which is about 20% of speed) stride length and stride frequency, but most of all, speed starts in the weight room...period. the stronger you are the greater the forced application (power). Treadmills, imo, dont do shit.
