Living in the past, especially another's past, is no way to build a future. Sometimes it seems as if those with a "history" that they find less than glamorous or storied, will simply shoplift one that suits their pipe dream of a personal pedigree. Sometimes it is done en masse to placate a group of people who for whatever reason refuse to forge a prosperours future of their own, despite being coddled by society. Blacks and whites do this. Do not believe me?
Just look at all the rednecks holding on to the idea of a Confederacy and tell me that living in the past, even one that you may have a direct lineage to is a good way to build a prosperous future. The same holds true with slavery and black Americans. Oh wait! Slavery still exits in the world but it is perpetrated on all races by all races. Humans being inhumane.
In the USA we call it welfare and to be honest no one fares well under it and that goes for every member of the human race.
You cannot change the past. You can try to rewrite and hope that no one finds you out. But they will. And they will mark you a fool and a liar.
Yes, one can learn from the past, but live in it? Where's the future in that?
