Wasn't there a bodybuilder just recently who dropped dead right by his swimming pool?

I think you mean Art Atwood.

Was he still jacked?  I have never heard a bad thing about this guy.

Less than during his prime, for a good reason

Ouch. The pictures of his family eat me up. I just saw my baby's ultrasound a few days ago. I can't imagine choosing bodybuilding over my family.

I don't want to sound like a self-hating hypocrite or anything, but I truly believe that you can pretty much abuse the shit out of PEDs as long as you get checked out and don't ignore things like your heart or kidney health. You can't reclaim those after they're fucked. You fuck up that myocardial tissue or build up arterial plaques and you're fucked. Or if you kill your kidneys with diuretics and end up on dialysis a few protein shakes will damn near kill you, so just avoid getting to that point all together. If you've got families too, my fuck... could you please consider them for a moment? No one needs to lose a brother, husband or daddy.

No problem with PEDs, just ignorant and blatant disregard for one's health. Stay safe, fellas.

I happened to read this about Art Atwood.

"had the opportunity to personally observe Art as he worked out while preparing for guest posing engagements. Art’s breathing always seemed heavily labored and he had much difficulty walking a mere 10 to 20-feet (from one cable station to another)"

http://steroidanalysis.com/2011/09/art-atwood-also-dead-at-only-37/

If someone notices (especially a bodybuilder) that one can not walk 10 to 20 feet without a lot of difficulty, why wouldn't you consider doing cardio or start taking walks or run?

Don't they want to live? Or is the fear of going catabollic to great to overcome?

How does the bodybuilder mind operate?

They probably don't have the cardio, period. Or maybe don't wanna go "catabolic" lol... after pumping grams of gear and vials of GH, I don't know how, but I've seen bodybuilders with legit catabolism fears. Scary shit. Takes a perverted mind to end up balls deep in this sport (in more ways than one).

Bros it is not the sport.
1. WTF where was the defibrillator???// no one knew CPR?
2. Most bodybuilders end up with cardiomyopathy (weak heart muscle) that can be hypertrophic increased EF, hypotrophic low EF. EF is the amount of blood your heart pumps out per contraction and should be at least 60%. it is a measure of left ventricular function. The shortness of breath with minimal effort is a mere reflection of poor cardiac function.
That is the time you need to step in. HTN and dyslipidemia are all contributing factors as well.
3. As a Doc, I make it a point to make sure the big boys in the gym are ok medically.
4. Of course another rate limiting factor to the equation is: who was the receiving doctor? If the guy was dangerous toss in the cookies.

Professional bodybuilding about money, there's no money in bodybuilding, nearly every pro except for the top 5 or so would earn most of their income personal training or selling drugs, or could earn more money working some regular job. The pro lifestyle is a temporary leased lifestyle illusion of wealth created by magazines, the sport doesn't set most up for life, it leaves most broke dead or with health issues as they get older. Pro bodybuilding, spending 10 to 20 k on drugs to win $15k before tax at some bodybuilding event and you cant even get your drugs written off as expenses come tax time, pro bodybuilding and the associated expensive drug abuse is  ridiculous, no brainer that there isn't to many graduates up there, you would have to be very limited in your options or completely self obsessed like many are to consider it.

Oh... so I guess promoters are doing shows as charity then?

BBing magazine are free? I can just pick them up on my way out of the super market?

protein powders are free?

last I recall, I had to PAY to sit in the audience at NPC and IFBB shows.

there's money in bbing, just not as a competetior.

why the fuck would I, as a promoter, direct the judges to PUNNISH the look that 95% of the audience CAME TO SEE.

Average guys who look like they workout DON'T SELL TICKETS. the FREAKS do... and ALWAYS HAVE.

you think Arnold wasn't considered a FREAK in his day? or Sergio? or Haney?

There was a time when 240 was huge... now, 240 is almost average in the gym for guys who don't even care to compete.

Very sad. RIP. Gigantic guy in person and very friendly to chat to.

The mortality rate just seems too high in bodybuilding.  I'd be interested in a list going all the way back to guys like Jeep Swenson, Curtis Leffler, Scott Stein, Sonny Schmidt, etc, etc ....who have left us?

If it wasn't health issues it was mental issues like Paul DeMayo, Bertil Fox and Ray McNeil?

Maybe Stunt can help with some of the historical facts?

IMHO NOBODY ... and I mean NOBODY has come close to this yet. This is how it should be for now. I know it wasn't "drug free" but seriously, let's get back to symmetry and health.

BTW, Frank is STILL alive, healthy and happy ~
