Off all my close friends who got married in their 20s, only two of them are still married today.   The rest are all divorced.  A couple on their second divorce.   Most of these guys got married in the mid to late 90s.  Every single one of them thought at the time of marriage, that they would be the ones who would be married forever.  Divorce was not a possibility, because they were somehow different.  Turns out they were not different.

Mine was an Asian shotgun wedding. Father-in-law already had wedding videos of his older daughters getting married and kept saying "you see, you see". My brothers and sisters in law told me "daddy" would shut me down if I didn't marry their sister. Shut me down.

Good thing I had noble intentions and really liked her. I don't think he'd be opposed to putting a young punk 6 feet under.

What exactly are you asking about?  How do the parents own or have any business what their daughter does?  I am failing to see the logic here.

You are giving the father a chance to voice his opinion after raising the girl you are about to marry. It is respectful to involve the parent in the process. Why? Because chances are they took the time to raise them right,  and are happy to see them taking the next step in life.
