The promoters and team of the Olympia have announced the prize money breakdown, and this year, $950,000 will be going to the competitors! Kudos to the team for raising the prize money again! This is going to be a great Olympia, I think my 17th Olympia contest I will be going to (since 1997).

Here is the original announcement on July 8th....

OLYMPIA PAYDAY: THE SKY’S THE LIMIT!

The Olympia. Where Legends Are Made. Conceived by Joe Weider, the 1965 Mr. Olympia, which was comprised of past Mr. Universe winners (at the time, the highest accolade in the sport), decided once-and-for-all who was truly the best. The physiques that won on this stage, names like Scott, Schwarzenegger, Zane, Haney, Yates, Coleman, Cutler, Heath and others, will echo through the ages. Today, the Olympia is more than just the greatest bodybuilding contest in the world, it is the greatest event in the sport, representing all eight divisions of the IFBB Professional League and home to an enormous expo with hundreds of health and fitness vendors and exciting sports and exhibitions for competitors and fans alike. Yes, the Olympia is far and away the ultimate achievement in the sport, and it is befitting that the total prize money, which has increased to $950,000, is a new record for the bodybuilding and fitness industry. The total cash prize for the Mr. Olympia will be $650,000, with $250,000, the coveted Sandow and a place in bodybuilding history going to the winner. The 212 Showdown has increased to $60,000 and the Bikini Olympia to $40,000 in total prize money, respectively.

It all happens September 26-29 in America’s playground, Las Vegas, NV when Ultimate Nutrition presents the 2013 IFBB Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness and Performance Weekend, brought to you by Bodybuilding.com. It’s not too late to get your tickets. Go to MrOlympia.com now!

TOTAL PRIZE MONEY BREAKDOWN

Mr. Olympia: $650,000
212 Showdown: $60,000
Ms. Olympia: $60,000
Fitness Olympia: $60,000
Figure Olympia: $60,000
Bikini Olympia: $40,000
Men’s Physique Showdown: $10,000
Women’s Physique Showdown: $10,000

Total: $950,000

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the new update on August 6th

OLYMPIA WEEKEND: ONE MILLION DOLLARS IN PRIZE MONEY!

Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness and Performance Weekend has reached a milestone—correction, a million dollar milestone. Yes, bodybuilding’s biggest weekend has hit the $1,000,000 mark, making Olympia Weekend’s total prize money figure the richest in the industry—by a country mile! Check out the increases in total prize money per division: Mr. Olympia has jumped from $650,000 to $675,000; the Olympia 212 Showdown has grown from $40,000 to $65,000; and the inaugural Olympia Men’s and Women’s Physique Showdowns kick in $20,000 a piece, and those figures combined with the other divisions add up to one million dollars in total prize money.

For years, the goal was to reach one million dollars by the 50th anniversary of Olympia Weekend, which would have been 2014. But thanks to the hard work and combined efforts of American Media Inc. and its CEO and chairman David J. Pecker, the IFBB Professional League and its president Jim Manion, and title sponsor Ultimate Nutrition, presenting sponsor Bodybuilding.com, and other valued sponsors, Joe and Ben Weider’s lifelong dream has become reality—ahead of schedule. And let's not forget the folks who really made this possible, the fans.

“Without the fans none of this would have happened,” Manion said. “Whether you’re a fan who attends year after year, a fan who can only make a special trip once in a while, or a first-time fan, it’s because of your support of the event and the sport, that Olympia Weekend has been getting bigger every year and I know that with all the exciting things happening in the industry, it will continue growing in the coming years. The sky’s the limit.”

Ultimate Nutrition presents the 2013 IFBB Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness and Performance Weekend, brought to you by Bodybuilding.com, September 26-29 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Get your tickets now at www.mrolympia.com.

Maybe next year as the Men's Physique and Women's Physique competitions grow bigger...

For now, just happy that they keep raising the bar each year...

Yep - at the Olympia Weekend, the title bout is the Mr. Olympia contest. Where the big guys battle the big guys.  The one who wins is #1 in the world.  That is who the VIP members go to see from all over the world.

So, is the is the plan? By growing the ranks of the IFBB Pros, and creating the Physique and Bikini divisions, that means more fees being paid, more tickets being sold to family members,,which means more money can be raised. All at the sacrifice of quality.
Now, if the winner of Mr. Olympia got 650k or even 950k, then I could see this really being a step fwd.

Care to elaborate on who these Very Important People are? and in what way do they go to "see" the said individual crowned as Mr O.
Do you mean 'seeing' as in 'knowing' in biblical terms ?

The VIP people that I meet at the Olympia come from all over the world.  Some are even lurkers on Getbig, as they have told me so.  It was very cool to meet people from England, Australia, South Africa, Germany, France and so on in Las Vegas.  And Vegas is the key.  They come from all over, spending a week in Vegas and enjoy that plus the contests, at whatever hotel they fancy out here. These are the die hard fans, the ones that enjoy bodybuilding, the big guys, the whole expo, the atmosphere of meeting the favorite bodybuilder and so on. If you ever go to one of the Olympia Meet and Greets, you would understand.  Or see the lines at the expo. Most are normal people, spending $700 to go to an event for 4 days.

The VIP Packages...

http://mrolympia.com/vip-packages

Now, the VIP Gold and the VIP Silver packages are already sold out, consisting of most of the floor tickets already.   And this year, they sold out earlier than ever.  Why is why it is very hard to get a ticket on the floor.

Ron, technically speaking (& logically thinking ) Mr.Olympia in not sanctioned by any real bodybuilding organization just "big"
bodybuilding event for bodybuilders & recognized by some bodybuilders only.
Sanctioned World Professional Bodybuilding Championship should be # 1.

The quality of the webcast stream by Bodybuilding.com over the past few years has been very good.  The equipment to run the webcast backstage is pretty huge, consisting of quite a few cameras, lots of computers, and I think, three lines that cost a great deal of money to be used at the Orleans Arena.

Why any pro BB's live in NY or CA is beyond me. Plenty of income tax free states to chose from.

It does not matter, it is the only federation that counts! The rest are wanabe's and will never be recognized by the fitness community as the IFBB is!    ;)

the winner of the mr. olympia should get 1 million dollar prize money alone, then bodybuilding could say the mr. olympia pays as if you were professional athlete, 1 million to the winner.

Those 4 letters (IFBB) can represent anything, like:
-International Federation of Blowing Balloons
-Inspirational Federation of Big Belies
-etc,......................

Not a Trade Mark, anyone can use IFBB & run his contest & this is reality  ;)
Reminder: D.Lurie's International Federation of Body Building (IFBB) was the 1st IFBB  ;D
Weiders, now Santonjas is :International Federation of Body Builders & Fitness  :D

This is impossible to calculate. Too many people involved, too many events and to many factors involved. This is like asking ``how much do stores make at the mall`` well some make a lot and some make nothing.

WOW IFBB living in the dark ages.  I'm surprised they don't make the women competitors cook dinner for the judges too.  And the women are far superior as athletes to the men.

Still not nearly enough money to throw your health away and almost die trying to reach peak physique and conditioning. The drugs are too out of control these days. Bodybuilders don't live long ,look at nasser he seemed somewhat healthy and just dies one day. Sure  some bodybuilders live a long life but they all have some kind of health problem, even Arnold has a bad heart.
Bodybuilding is the most hardcore sport I have ever tried. There was no way I could get to pro level conditioning and the amount it would cost just to get the gains I did get when I was using was a insane amount of money. I could of won some small shows that offered just exposure but winning a junior nationals was not going to happen , some of those guys are using more then the pros and they shoot all sorts of bad quality chinese HGH,sketchy UGL lab gear, abuse insulin.

I have played alot of sports basketball, baseball, football, and bodybuilding was the hardest to me because if you don;t have the genetics you are screwed to start with no matter how much gear and HGH and synthol you use. You might get to a high level if you megadose but you are not going to look as good as the guys with the good genetics. Not rying to sound racist but african americans seem to have it easier and are just naturally gifted, that goes for boydbuilding to bsketball to football even baseball. There are guys with shit genetics who have gone pro like jason arntz, chris cook, Matt Duvall but where did thee guys ever go in the sport? nowhere! waste of health and money. you have to weigh the risk vs reward a million dollars for being the best bodybuilder in the whole world is a slap in the face-IMO. These guys work harder then any basketball player, football player, baseball player. These pro bodybuilders need salarys.

Top prize for mr. Olympia the worlds best bodybuilder should be at least 5-10 million.
