Nothing other than history. When fiat currencies fail, there is a panicked flight to physical gold and silver. Fiat currencies can be subject to (hyper) inflationary forces, limited supply "currency" like precious metals aren't subject to the same forces.

As for the food and ammo, that should be self explanatory and unnecessary for the average GetBigger with his stocked basement and armory.

I get it at a local "coin shop". I usually like my gold in known coin form, specifically US Gold Eagles or South African Krugerrands. In a pinch, the Australian "Opera House" 1 oz. coins are fine. For silver, I like US Mint Silver Eagles.

Ammo: 5.56x45, 7.62x 51, 7.62x39, 5.45x39, 9mm subsonic and .357 sig.
