Problem with drugs and alcohol is that the confidence is only temporary and you're worse off in the end. They take their toll on your neurochemistry and when deep down you know you're doing something you shouldn't be doing your confidence will suffer...whether consciously aware of this or not.

For me setting goals and achieving them gives me self confidence these days. Luckily, I aim really low so I don't have to work so hard to feel confident.

Provigil/modafinil is milder than amphetamines(adderral). If you experience psychosis from any of these it will more than likely be from heavy use for extended periods of time. Every drug affects everyone differently but I've noticed the paranoia/insanity from stimulants starts to kick in for most when you keep awake not getting any sleep. People who experience permanent psychosis/insanity already had underlying conditions.

Everything is fun when you start off but if your use progresses into an addiction you start seeing more sides. But these two you mentioned can have their place like most drugs if not abused.

See, this guy gets the point of this thread, what brings false confidence naturally besides booze or drugs. I couldn't imagine using meth or coke while blasting gear. Too much aggression. I already kicked a door in while drunk one night. Bad shit. 100x more aggressive when I drink.
