there is a reason why these guys do not have manual labor jobs, they couldnt keep up the movement required

would a 300lb falcon be fitter than a 300lb wsm?

...He seemed pretty serious about his Christian faith and spoke about how that was his focus now in life. Very interesting guy.

I know some people talk about what a douche he was when younger..

Just a new form of being a douche. Christians are lame and boring.

Always admired his physique, he didn't just look strong, Kaz was the real deal, first man to Bench press over 660lbs in competition and squatted/Deadlifted in the 900's, as if that wasn't enough he was untouchable in the WSM in the early eighties winning 3 titles back to back.

To put things in perspective there is a video of Levrone doing behind the neck press with four plates.  I forget how many reps and granted it was on the smith press but he made it look easy.  He was a lot smaller than Kaz too.

If he was so strong why did he stay in a niche sport, why didn't he try his strength in a strength sport that has the most competition, weightlifting.

i have a feeling these guys are only good for one maximum lift a day, and if they were asked to mow a couple yards they couldnt because they would die from cardiac failure

SO wrong. And epic jealousy, too.

He wouldn't of been great at it, the most noted C/J I have for him is #374 after a few events at the Strongbow contest in England, so his best # might of been low - mid #400's at #320ish. I've never seen snatch numbers for him, but they would've probably been low - mid #300's. He was starting after the press was discontinued, which would've been a disservice, as most American lifters used that as a point to make up ground during competitions.

He was smart to stay in Strongman/PL/Highland Games type sports where it's more of a raw, animalistic type strength. I think he would've had problems like Patera did, with technique, flexibility, etc.....

To even JOKE about Levrone being in the same strength arena as Kaz is truly embarrassing.

You do realize successful weightlifters, on a world level, usually all begin at a young age, right? To master the crazy technique and all. And the two sports, powerlifting and weightlifting, should actually swap names. Powerlifting places a MUCH greater emphasis on brute, absolute strength, whereas weightlifting (Olympic lifting) is much more dynamic and encompassing of other non-strength specific physical attributes.

Hope this helps.

Free weight press is in a different league than pressing on a smith machine, much much harder to press a bar free weight, also the clip of Kevin
pressing, his spotter was helping him from the first rep, don't underestimate how much easier it is when your spotter has his hands on the bar also, even if he is only helping "a little", help from the spotter = No lift

Levrone was an incredibly strong presser no doubt but not in the same league as Kaz

Hope this helps ;)

Lot of technique involved in weightlifting, I believe Kaz was a football player who switched over to powerelifting, my guess is he would have been
too old to be a competitive weightlifter, also powerlifting would suit his body type better where there is technique involved but also a lot of brute strength.

What was Kaz, about 360? I wasn't saying Levrone could out lift him but lb per lb Levrone probably wins. Besides does Kaz have striated glutes?? I think not, sir!

He was #320 - 330 at 6' 2" . He never really jumped out of that range. If you know Levrone's weight on the tape, you can maybe figure a conservative comparison adding or deducting around #7 per inch. Kazmaier would've probably been around #290 - 295 at Levrone's height.

Also the Smith knocks off a pretty decent amount of weight, enough that it makes a comparison almost unjudgeable. Kazmaier would've been in the #500 plus range, realistically on a Smith.

I always figured him much bigger, maybe I'm mistaken. Hell, I saw Kovacs a couple of years ago and he HAD to be pushing 400lbs.  He would dwarf Kaz, hard to believe.

strangely enough ive always been able to press heavier with a free bar.... altho alot of the older smith machines arent counterbalanced and the bar weighs much more than 45lb

dont underestimate levrones pressing, he could rep out with 5 plates on the incline at a weight of only around 260....

8 x 45 pounds + Olympic Bar (44 pounds) = 360 + 44 = 404.  If the claim of 448 is to be believed, the smaller plates on the end must be 22 pounders.  Possible
