true, york made 22lb and 25lb, they also made both 45lb and 44lb and their Olympic bars were 44lb.

yup, I used to bench four plates for reps, but it was only 396

York did in the 70's - 80's, but they were nowhere near as popular in the US as  pound plates. You can special order them now too. My two olympic sets are York iron sets, one imperial, one metric.

I was able to find a pic online -

.

I thought the metric weight bars and plates were rare around 1980. The bars were 45lbs and the 25lbs were common. It was really rare to see a 10kg plate. I stand corrected and I could be wrong about the weight on the bar. It's standard now that the Olympic bars are 44lbs but in the 70's in the US they were 45lbs.

I live in Canada, maybe they are more popular up here. one or two plates aside the dif was minimal, but once you got up to five or six plates for squats and deads, there was a ten - twelve pound difference from standard plates.

Agreed, i prefer an all-rounded strongman with a good muscular physique, like Kazmaier or Pudzianowski, than a giant superstrong statue with fat... I was asking myself, if a monster like Kazmaier did 3 reps with 448lbs on an incline-seated press, how Kai Greene was able to do 495lbs for 3 reps on an incline press, 8 days out from contest in 2011? Something is not right...

the last thing I want to do is defend kai green but,  he has extremely short limbs with crazy insertions, which would translate to an incredible mechanical advantage. add to that 10-20x the amount of drugs Kaz ever thought of taking and it may be possible.

also, it is proven that idiots use fake plates for photo shoots, so who knows.

you never know how strong someone is by how they look...   I spotted a former squat record holder 3 days before a bodybuilding show (he was shredded and won the overall).  he did a double bodyweight full squat for 36 deep non stop reps.   pretty freaky.

Kaz was doing a seated press, Kai an incline. Big difference in strength on the two lifts.

plus the 2 tens, that makes it at least 425
Looks like 4x45's on each side and a 25 pounder and possibly a collar.
