Just to name a few cliches that movie consist of:
:spoilers:
Noble leader with skeletons in the closet.
Handsome and skillful heroes.
Love story.
Funny and idiotic scientists making an important discovery.
No gore.
Scene with a crying child.
Father-son relationship.
"Oh, we have a superweapon" scene.
The loss of family member scene.
A pictureque criminal character.
A drop of tears scene.
Brutal russians, looking like Roxette and Billy Idol combined.

But... special effects and fast rhytm are able to pull out that movie from abyss of idiocy.
Still fun to watch.

No man, i really like DC/Marvel animation films, same with superhero movies too, but this particular flick was too gay for my taste.

A team of two controlling a giant robot fighting classic Japanese style sea monsters...i couldn't stand it.

GDT went out of his way to make this as insanely awesome for his 12 year old inner self. That's why some of the lines, and actions are clearly "because, movie". There are a bunch of little nods, not only to old school giant monster/robot movies, but to anime. He achieved EXACTLY what he was going for. If you didn't like it, that's a shame. Marvel/DC doesn't really hit the same itch with their crop of super heroes as this film would. This movie IS going to influence this generation of kids, and the next.

With all do respect....Avengers blows this movie out of the water. The Ironman movies are great....granted #3 was a bit off. And on pins and needles to see the New Thor in Nov....Even Cap Murica was on par if not a bit better because of the story line.

I stand by my B....downfall was actors and plot/character (or lack of) development...fight scenes and special effects A+..

WElls it is kind of hard to beat RDJ self centered egotistical performance. Still, I think Avengers would have been better if Agent Romanoff aka that girl with two glocks and the guy with Bow and Arrows got tossed aside.

Avengers might be the most overrated scifi movie of all time

In defense of the big giant robots. The planes didn't appear to do much damage to the smaller monsters....as the robots had trouble with the bigger oness using their plasma cannons. I'm not sure why they felt they needed to fly within claw distance but whatever. The movie was good. I would have liked to see more build up, especially as people reacted to the first wave of monsters. I didn't like the scene's on the alien homeworld, it looked to much like ID4. The movie played out like many Japanese cartoons...same humor...same vehicles and big robots. Solid B

Could have been an A if the movie was longer, and had more character development. (on the Kaiju)

Would have been better if SPOILER: the monsters weren't related/constructed but recruited from different parts of the galaxy and each one had a more distinct look, instead of everyone of them having that blue glow and rubbery skin.

If they had been as different from eachother as King Ghidora (Kinky Dora) and Gigan for example

Gigan (Can spot Gary Goodridge and Ray Sefo here.. )

Loved Guillermo Del Toros tribute to Ebirah though!

Good movie and obsessively detailed in usual Del Toro fashion. I felt the Kaijus looked a bit bland. A great tribute to mecha and kaiju movies of the past.

A lot of potential for Jaegers representing different national or manufacturing approaches.
Supposedly there's plans for a sequel.
