About 118mph. The driver had even posted pics on FB going fast before (130+mph though there are stretches where trains can go this fast).

Why aren't there limits to how fast he can push the speed on certain parts of the track?

for things like public safety, often some regulation is okay.

imagine an airline industry with zero regulation.  Or a food industry.  beef can be shipped from anywhere with no standards - are you buying a burger tomorrow?  I'm not.

Point is, the dude could have had a heart attack just as easily as pushing the speed just to be a jackass.  With hundreds of lives at risk, there is no way to put in a variable speed governor/regulator to keep the speed under x mph on certain parts of the track?

Better enclose the track too, lest a rock finds itself windfallen onto the rail.

Probably need body cavity searches and other security measures before boarding too.

I'm buying a burger tomorrow because I like eating dead animals, can taste rotten meat whether or not the government protects me from it, and trust the butcher I'm buying it from because killing off his customer base with rancid animal tissue is bad for business and he's not into the whole "defendant in the people vs. deadly meat seller" scene.

For real?  lol... you don't like the idea of being able to stop a lone idiot from pushing the vehicle to crash speeds on vertain vulnerable parts of track, if the technology is available?

I'm not worried about impinging on the 'freedoms' of a train operator with 200 lives at his fingertips.  I am worried about the rights of the hundreds of passengers.  I doubt any sane, reasonable train engineer would say "I don't want the job because your train won't let me do 120mph when I should be doing 40mph."

However, as someone who loves to argue with anything, I do admire your approach on this thread :)

One confounding variable: this is public transport, so owned and operated by the government anyway.
