I honestly believe Snuka was heir to the throne before the old man brought Hogan back to the Fed. Muracco was in a similar boat, IMO.

I agree. It seem Hogan coming back knocked Snuka down a peg.

Had the territory continued on as it was, Superfly would have been the logical choice. Once the old man decided to go the "MTV route," Hogan became the logical choice.

No matter what anyone thinks of Hogan, the champ must be marketable. And, I don't mean transitional champions, but the guy who essentially carries the company. In the mid through late-80's, that guy was Hogan.

Scott Hall.

Hall would have been fantastic. He was way over as a face and heel, and he was a major part of the nWo's success. I think New World Order t-shirt sales were the only merchandise to rival Austin 3:16. That was such a fun and entertaining time in wrestling. My buddies and I used to laugh our asses off over the shows!

As for Hall, he may have gotten the push had he been able to keep his shit together.

With all the politics and BS that Hall and Nash had in WCW, I am surprised they never thru the world title on Hall.....

Very interesting podcast recently Austin interviewed Hall, seems to be coming along but for how long?

Hall was by far the best all around worker in the nWo.

I agree - if not the best, then certainly one of the best. Of course, the nWo Sting was some hefty competition in that category.

 ;D

Seriously, had Hall been more reliable, I suspect he'd have gotten the belt. Unfortunately, by the time he was white hot, the results of his problems were in full swing with Scott missing some shows, showing up late and/or intoxicated to others...the incidents outside the ring, etc.

A very similar thing happened with Davey Boy Smith in WCW.

Hall as WCW champion wouldn't have done much, in my view.

Hall as Razor Ramon would have made a GREAT WWF champion. He was an integral part of the "New WWF Generation". Plus, with Michaels and Diesel (Nash) getting title runs, Razor would have fit the mold just fine. And BOY, was he over back then.

Exactly!! Back in the day, Hogan's first name was "The World Wrestling Federation (Heavyweight) Champion". If anybody but him had the belt, it just looked awkward.

Not sure which was over more, Hall or Razor...I encourage you to listen his podcast with Austin (2 shows) very interesting. He could cut promos, great look/body and could wrestle for a big guy but willing to bump and put people over.....123 kid anyone.

Hall's biggest detriment, IMO, was his unreliability. His work was good - both on the mic and in the ring. He supposedly fed Nash a lot of his lines during their WCW run.

Speaking of Muraco, I'll add him to the list. What didn't he have that Vince was looking for in his champions at that time? Don had the body, charisma, mic skills, etc. And, he had a hell of a lot more talent than Hellwig. I mean, Don knew how to work; just look at some of his matches against Steamboat!

Muraco was awesome. I liked him better before Vince had him blow up too big. Just like Dino Bravo.

WWF was always a "big man's" territory - even when Vince Sr. ran it. Talent and skill were second-fiddle; if you were big, you were in.

Yeah, I guess I meant more "up to that point."

Backlund was certainly an exception.
Shawn came up post-steroid scandal when Vince was trying to change the company's image by moving away from musclebound stars, which was cool since it gave smaller but better workers a shot.

I'm over it...until Timmy shows up during his bi-annual visit to bump his "Shrine of Shawn" thread.

Then I simply remind him of the countless stories of Vince ramming it up Shawn's asshole.

Good times!

Tim's job takes up a lot of his time throughout the year. He'll be back.
