NSA director gets heckled at black hat.

While Army Gen. Keith Alexander, the head of the National Security Agency, was barred from this year's DefCon hacker conference, Black Hat hacker conference welcomed him with open arms.

Well, not everybody at the conference did.

One hacker in particular, felt the need to interrupt Alexander's Wednesday morning presentation.

Alexander was about a half hour into his talk when a 30-year-old security consultant named Jon McCoy shouted “Freedom!”

“Exactly,” responded Alexander. “We stand for freedom.”

“Bulls***!” McCoy shouted.

“Not bad,” Alexander said, as applause broke out in the crowd. “But I think what you’re saying is that in these cases, what’s the distinction, where’s the discussion and what tools do we have to stop this.”

“No, I’m saying I don’t trust you!” shouted McCoy.

“You lied to Congress. Why would people believe you’re not lying to us right now?” another voice in the crowd added.

Alexander went on to deny that he lied to Congress, and plead with the hackers to help the NSA become better if they think it so bad.

“The whole reason I came here was to ask you to help us make it better,” said the general, according to Greenberg. “And if you disagree with what we’re doing, you should help us twice as much.”

The NSA and other intelligence agencies regularly attend the two hacker conferences in an attempt to find, court, and hire ... well ... people as talented as late leaker Edward Snowden.

The organizers of DefCon requested Alexander and other feds stay away this year because of the same Snowden revelations that have been the talk of the globe lately.

Needless to say, it's important to note that intelligence analysts have received mixed receptions since the history of their appearances at these conferences.

Last February, hackers derided Alexander for showing up in "jeans and a cool EFF t-shirt" and trying to court hackers. They responded by supposedly hacking into an FBI cyber agent's laptop and stealing 2 million Apple Unique Device Identifier numbers.

I don't understand why someone like this is involved in a hacker conference (or vice versa).

Can't imagine WTF is up with that.

He's looking for talent to recruit.

Yeah, just read a different article on it.  Very comforting stuff.

To claim it's about securing freedom?  Shit's outrageous.  Please, bitch.

you know one thing that weird, if the govt has thwarted some terorist attacks, allegedly, where are the court cases on the convicts?

i dont mean in usa only, even germany claims usa programe helped to prevent some attacks, fine, but wheres the media coverage on those court cases?wheres the court case itself?usa could be under military law and secret, but not in europe.

so why doesnt he govt ask where to couurt cases are happening?

ofc the govt uses those programmes for industrial espionage, all economic reasons first and foremost, they dont care if some fat american smokes a joint at home watching youtube etc.

but some things here definitely questionable.

There are things that can't be discussed "due to security", but further explanation can't be offered - again, presumably "for security".

This is a weak spot that needs to be attacked.

Maybe some of the bitches that would endorse this nonsense could step up and explain it.

i read interview with former german minister for secret service they have there.

his interpretations of their constituation are ,lets say, very special.

i can see why ppl get upset.

i do trust the govts though, kinda like you gotta trust a girlfriend,if you know what i mean.

i can see why some things are kept secret etc.

but wheres the court cases, this is atrocious that the german govt doesnt ask for that.

i can see why its pointless to ask in the usa.

but yeah overall this has more to do with econimic interests first and foremost.

You can trust the concept of a government, but to accept a "trust us" approach to any set of individuals within the government is absolute insanity.

Sorry, but something is very wrong.  If things cannot be explained, there is without doubt a very obvious reason for that.

...and BTW, good point, galeniko.  Industrial development, intellectual property, political aspirations, etc.

To think that a person having "something to hide" means being up to no good, is absolutely wrong.  People need to get the fuck out of that mindset.

Apparently, undercover FBI has actually "recruited" people that are willing to commit terror attacks, financed them, and led them on until the last minute just to bust them, and claim the prevented a terror attack.

The fact alone that this wiretapping gives "them" the power to completely destroy opposing political candidates is reason enough.

I've read about it, and I still can't figure out what their excuse is for not simply going to the courts if they need to wiretap someone?

???

Yes.  Think of the power to be derived from monitoring all up-and-coming political figures.

So how is it prevented?  It's not.  To place measures against it is to compromise "security".

This is dangerous shit.  No joke.

I read some pretty convincing articles claiming the Boston Bombing was one of these FBI jobs.  The FBI was minutes late though apparently and didn't get to bust them.  :-\

well, this isnt conspiracy things or something, the us govt has already in place, being tested or even used(not sure dont quote me on this, i can post the programme names later on,have to dig it up,its in various mags i read)thought crime detectors, and some unis work on prgrammes to be able to predict upfront the actions of ppl(individual base).
and some uni, under the disguise of scintific prgress, much like hitler theroies and euthanasia-they try to establish on newborns etc, by brain scans whether one will become criminal or not(not even knowing what kinda crime etc, think about this, its impossible).
the last one is opposed by many scientists in the field but being pushed forward anway.theres momney being spent on this, therefore its pushed by vcertain interest groups.

lets not forget machine soldiers, the day an army or police force is machines and not fellow humans, that day the govt cannot be trusted anymore.

drones we already have, machine soldiers prototypes are already out there.as of now.

i see a bad pattern.unless the elite manages to establish a peacuful utopia , which i doubt, there will be bad things.

Wow... what a scary/interesting time to be alive.......  :o
