Lot of people made out selling arms after the fall of the U.S.S.R. Lot of new money billionaires were made over the last couple of decades. Along with the fact that Russia is also one of the most corrupt countries on the planet helps.

Scumbag Oligarchs, alot of them Jewish, plundered the countries wealth during the Post-Communist period and even today, alot of it being resource wealth.

And Russia has not failed. It has been doing pretty well recently mainly due to its resource wealth. It supplies most of the natural gas for Europe.
