If you want to bring up a lagging body part, train that body part 2-3x/wk.

I concur with this gentleman.

Overall volume has to be more than what you were doing previously. After a couple of weeks of doing this, you'll adapt and gain.

Training to failure is not necessary though, actually, it's counter productive.

Can you expound on this? I train my chest (always a weak bodypart for me) 2-3x a week, but always take sets to failure. What's your reason for not?

You just want to stimulate protein synthesis, but not cause substantial muscle tissue breakdown.

Protein synthesis is elevated for 24-48hrs after a training session, so training 2-3x/wk will keep signaling your muscle to actively grow and recover, but you want to facilitate this process by not destroying your chest each session.

Not much excess thinking based on kinesiology here... and empirical data.

Rep schemes? Nonsense.

Learn how and what makes a muscle work, and then work it. I don't care if it comes down to standing on your head. It might even be better that way because at the very least, you would be thinking.. possibly even using logic.

here are some words of advice for you from gal

most delusional:
this is a very close race between dickjuggler181 and tbombs.tbombs kinda has an excuse, the guy is a victim to recreational drug use, it happens to the best.i hope he comes off of them before old men clientele fill up his anus with semen ,you know, before it starts spilling from his eyes.
now dj181, most stubborn , epic pussy, afraid to put a needle into himself(not for the side effect, hes afaraid of the needle, but surely was vaccinated as baby, so,less guts than a baby), no progress whatsoever, sucking up every broscience out there like tbombs sucks old men sperm.
he doesnt realize the only saving grace witha face like his, would be to develop a good charme and a jacked body.he will never learn.he lacks that moving forward attitude.if all men were like him wed still be living i caves.

Try 150 sets of dips with chains hanging around your neck for maximum growth.

my chest barely grew at all from benching for years... dumbells, barbells, inclines, declines wide grip close grip...i did everything... wasnt till i started getting stronger on pec fly machines/cables did i actually get some pecs.  Never understand why people think its a good chest builder the function of the pecs isnt a pressing movement, the tris and delts are doing nearly all the work.

My sickest chest pumps come from a variety of dumbell presses. I know the whole triceps and delts overpower the blah blah blah argument, but if I want a wicked chest pump, it's from dumbell presses and possibly a snickers ice cream bar pre workout.

Because of Arnold. Arnold benched press and had huge pecs, therefore, bench pressing gives people huge pecs, and everyone does them.

Arnold could have done all flies and still had that chest.

is it a correct observation RC was more of a dumbell man than a barbell man?

There was a guy on here years ago that had been lifting for a long time.  The last 5 years or so of his training was all flyes and dips, no pressing.  He posted some pics and his chest looked like armor plating.

Due to shoulder and elbow injuries, i don't press as much as i used to.  Sometimes i'll do 4-5 sets of DB presses and then do 10-12 sets of flyes in different variations.  I think my chest looks better today than ever.  Back when i was power lifting and did very heavy BB bench, it seemed the only thing that grew was my shoulders and triceps.

I still believe presses are important, but they aren't everything IMO.

yep it could be put that way

the idea behind doing the compound move 1st is because one can use greater training loads which in turn facilitates greater size and strength gains

If barbell presses are "all delts and tris" how come most pec tears come from bb presses?
If there's no tension put on the pec major we wouldn't see all these pec tears from it.
