As a zookeeper I worked with them on a daily basis, rule is (as with most wild animals) give them plenty of space and you have nothing to worry about.

One of my prefered dogs If I ever get another dog, Jack Russels and mini Schnauzers are fucking fearless.

A little funny anecdote:

I have an irish friend in Wexford who is frequently hunting with his jack russel, the little guy is too small to look over the grass and spot the rabbit so he trained him by picking him up and actually showing him were the rabbit is :D, the dog goes all quite when he picks him up and as soon as he is pointed in the right direction and sees the rabbit he goes apeshit and you just let him go and he goes off like a rocket :D :D

I was on a job site in an area where we had to go through rattlesnake awareness classes because they were in the area and had been spotted. Well, I was taking some pics of the site and as I was walking I heard a click, and as I kept walking it got louder and faster until I finally recognized the sound. It was the eeriest thing I've ever heard. I was out in the middle of nowhere, so I just backed the fuck up and got in my truck and left.

I have had to dust a couple rattlers and copperheads that get anywhere near the house, when I see them in the woods I just let them be.
If I do kill a rattler he gets skinned, I have even eaten a couple of them. They taste like snake and the meat is generally very flaky kind of like fish.
The meat is very lean though and full of protein, keeping this BB related.

This. I live in snake country. It's not like they're going to chase you.

just call the animal authorities and have it removed if it dangerous snake. If they are around the house, then they are taking care of some rodents...or sunning themselves.

Is it true that you can only get antivenom once?

I just saw MUD on DVD and that is what Matthew M. said in the movie.

Put that around
your bed at night.

Snake won't cross
a braided rope.

Thanks.

So what's that
tattoo for then?

A reminder.

Don't get bit.

I was 10, swimmin' about a mile
up from here, me and Juniper.

Son of a bitch

swam up on me, bit me right
here up under the armpit.

Juniper got me
off to the clinic.

Doctor said I should have
been dead in 20 minutes.

Took us over an hour
just to get to town.

So what'd
they do for it?

Gave me the anti-venom.

Cottonmouth.

See here?

Thing with
anti-venom is,

they can only
give it to you once.

Made of horse blood. Body
would reject it a second time.

So the cure becomes more
dangerous than the poison.

What happens
if you get bit again?

I die.

or just sweat it out.

I don't know, but I can tell you Southern folks cannot stand snakes, be they dangerous or harmless. They will shoot a snake as soon as they see it. Maybe it's the Christian in them...but, it seems that humankind has a fear of snakes imprinted in them.
