This story is the most disgusting thing I have heard all year.  Looks like the story made national news for half a day and gone but the Trayvon story went on for months with activists and politicians rallying around it.  Both stories sad but this one is not controversial in the least.  Those thugs beat a 88/89 year old frail veteran.  F-cking sick.  How about our national leaders address this kind of extreme violence and champion and honor this veteran instead of cherry picking cases to get behind.

The Zimmerman story got traction because he was never arrested after the shooting, they detained for a few hours and let him go, in this scenario the perpetrators were arrested and did not get away with you, your outrage is nothing more than cognitive bias disguised as righteous anger. Apples to oranges.

roosevelt, you are correct, the cases are not the same, particularly in regards to the arrest, I agree, but the massive media attention, protests and involvement from national leaders continued far after that and there was far more organized national outrage.  This case is worse, there is no dispute what happened...direct result of thug behavior and targeting an old frail white guy as easy prey.

I would be just as outraged if it were an 88yo black war hero and these thugs beat him to death.  The root issue is the desensitization to violence and self-centered disregard for others in thug culture.  The media easily jumped to racism and profiling in the Treyvon case but resists jumping to judgement on racism or profiling when the criminals are young black males, double standards are frustrating.
