Assad is a dick but he's nothing compared to the shitheads in the ISIS and Al-Nusra. He ran a secular country that was OK for the most part before this civil war. I'd rather see him stay in there, too.

I prefer to let them fight until one side is COMPLETELY smashed.  We intervene now... and what happens?  the rebels hide in the population... our guys get hurt/killed fighting for them... we suffer from attacks from the trolls hiding out in the rebels who hate us more than they hate assad...

we should just let them drag it out for a while.  kill em ALL off.. weakening themselve severely in the process.  I mean, if there are two drunk idiots fighting outside your bar, do you run into the middle of it?  NO WAY.  You let them pummel each other, then you shove the winner, bloodied and barely standing, the heck out of there.    Instead, obama's gonna run dick first into a battle between two fairly strong forces, who both hate us?  makes zero sense.  let them kill each other for another 2-3 years.

This has been my thought process since this started. It's Al-Qaeda vs Hezbollah. The one problem is that minority populations continue to be persecuted as a result of our arming of the rebels which has given them the ability to drag this out and take land from which they're then able to kill at will.

I'd even be okay with finding ways to protect innocent.  Give them from free warehouses or 'war free zones'.  And if rebels want to fight then run for the 'safe zone', then they pinkmisted from the sky from a missile with no return address.  Essentially, we could arm both sides, give them room to fight it out, and remind them every time a civilian gets killed, we're going to pick off one of the leader of the movement that caused it

That view would seem to make sense...our guys aren't put at risk and politically we're doing something. However, the rest of the Arabs in the region won't be happy no matter ow much or how little we do. So we loose there. If we bomb the dogsit out of of the conventional syrian military, the jihadists will take over a largely intact country. The beauty of 1994 Afghanistan was that the nutbags were fighting over rumble and very little else. Here, they get a control over a functioning nation, a ton of equipment (as we won't destroy everything) and be better postioned to topple moderate states like the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Iran will have a massive influence there with their Hezboallah proxies running things. Nothing good came of this.....Obama has bungled the long game. This is yet another symptom of all this being over his head.

The only rebels with stuff for us to hit are the former Syrian army folks, who we're backing anyway. The jihadists don't have shit to bomb. We're gonna hit Assad..and then the nutbags are gonna come rolling in. The only thing keeping them from winning is the limited air and armor of the syrian army. Plus they will take AA equipment whole..which can then be either targeted against our aircraft or moved and sold to other nutbags. We can't use the drones on the jihadist when they're mixed in with the civilains. 240 you need to think about this shit.

Chaos would be fine....what we're going to get is a coherent and dangerous failed state with plenty of toys left over. We bomb them into dust..we'll bomb just enough to allow the guys we don't want to win.....win.
