They probably assume an AAS user who uses Ronnie-style quantities vs. a kid sniffing paint once a week. That kid won't die at 40, most likely. He'll just be half stupid with scorched sinuses.

I agree but that doesn't mean that they're unrelated. They're all controlled substances, and sometimes have comorbidity. Don't read more into it than that.

Fact is, competitive bodybuilding does seem to attract many who suffer some type of personality disorder.

To be so Kamikaze with regard to drug/hormone usage speaks to this.

These guys/gals are not dabbling with anabolic steroids here and there. They're abusing hormones and chemicals on a scale few can comprehend.

As someone said earlier in the thread, perhaps it was bodybuilding that kept Denise on the (relatively-speaking) straight and narrow, and when it went away, so did her remaining hold on her "normal" existence.

It's also interesting to note that her and Paul DeMayo were friends for a time, while each was pursuing bodybuilding success. And we all know Paul was damaged and became another casualty in the sport.

In one photo of Denise, the one with the 2 black kids, the kid on the right was wearing the shirt of the contest my old gym owner promoted. It was at this contest - maybe not same year- that the owner could not afford separate rooms for Denise and Paul. So the two of them roomed together, and apparently were extremely happy to do so too.
Same gym owner also got a call from DeMayo himself about 2 months before Pauls death, where Paul was whacked out of his mind asking for a loan.The owner didn't want to loan him money, especially since he had not  spoken with Paul in a decade or more. Paul was so desperate for money he actually told the owner he would sell him his contest trophy (from when he turned pro, I cannot remember if it was Nationals, Americans or the year) for $100. Just because he was so strung he needed money to cop a fix.

I believe you are correct, and that they were guest posers at the contest I am remembering. I do not know if any of the photos posted here were taken at that contest. I am just mentioning that t shirt on the kid as a reference point.

neither's true.

huff paint thinner, or anything else, and take the risk each time of your body forgetting to breath and you die.

cycle steroids for years and it's unlikely you'll die before you're 40. steroids don't kill bodybuilders. weighing 100lbs over your 'natural' bodyweight and having uncontrolled blood pressure kills bodybuilders.. as well as painkiller and amphetamine abuse/use.
