Nothing useful or practical by doing that.

Move a heavy log a distance and we're talking!

Society needs Lumber to build.

To bring Wood from from Forest to Town is very practical.

Back in the day, that is how you build strength.

The best measure of strength is to see how long you can carry an item of heavy weight. Not just lift it 3 inches from the ground and then put it down.

Nothing will be produced from that if you don't move the tree to the lumbermill.

This is a very impressive individual who can carry logs quite the distance for example

I don't lie on here, too old for that. I am 5'4 and used a Sumo grip. Decrease the work by decreasing the distance.

I can relate (43 in a couple of weeks)...then respect....you mean sumo stance right...always felt awkward...but I love that strength feeling....like testosterone flowing throw your veins after a strong pull...as a natural

Nice lift!  Much more than I can pull, believe me.

As for it being "functional strength", I should think it translates well enough to being usable in the real world.
