The "N" word.

Hey, average white guy here to talk n word. I myself have been guilty of using it, but usually not as a racial slur. Around some of my buddies I may drop a "nig gga" please, or a "this guy is a jerk" but will not even be referring to a person of color. It's almost as if our generation has heard it so much through song and movies, that we, as an entire generation of all colors, have picked it up as slang. Does it say something about the times that the word doesn't really have its derogatory meaning anymore(except in white trash circles) or am I alone in this? Words often can change meaning over time, why can't this one? If we use it and water it down, wouldn't it lose its power? Am I being delusional, or a closet racist, or am I being real and rational?

I don't speak ghetto slang or Ebonics at all, I will occasionally drop an n bomb while referring to someone I don't like or am degrading, usually a white person(actually I can't even remember referring to a black person as one), or just as a bit of slang. When will the word lose its meaning? Do white folks need to do a blanket apology to start the healing?

The "more pronounced r" or the er instead of an a at the end is what really gets you in trouble. I agree that words change meaning over time or turn into slang but in this case it's still not ok with society. I don't know

I use the word in private, but I don't spare other races either including my own kind It's inconsequential as long as I'm not going out and blurting out racist things to people.

In south-america is pretty common to be called "negro", women say that to their boyfriends even if we are not black lol. My current gf refers to me as "negrito"
