Another one of these "threads", well lets see....positives....uh, there are none. What you ask is a rhetorical question, plain and simple. And to that gentleman who said "why do you post on a bodybuilding website". What the hell does this site really have to do with Professional Bodybuilding? Gossip, Dorian is more grainy than Ronnie, huge guts and message board fueds. So, why are you posting on this forum guy?

I don't think bb is the type of thing you are supposed to earn a living at. It is an extreme sport. Kinda like a religion for the top competitors. They are martyrs in a really perverted sense.

Why are you on a bodybuilding site?

Exactly, if you don't like bodybuilding then leave this site.  Oh, I get it, deep down you like it or you wouldn't be here.  And, bodybuilding as a whole is good and a beneficial activity.  Think of all the personal trainers that make a living from the very activity you bad mouth.  Ya' know, there are people in bodybuilding that don't do all the above mentioned.

Here is a try at something POSITIVE.  Like many of the posts here, I am dismayed at the current direction of bodybuilding and the hell it's playing with many of the top competitors' lives.  I have a friend who is PRO.  I'm trying to convince him to take a break, get a regular job, make a regular living, and have the courage to be smaller (at least for a while).

Here's what's been positive in my own life.  It's the reverse of my friend's situation.  When I was in my 30s I competed for a while (locally, never amounted to much, never overdid it).  I felt great.  I looked great.  I was happy.  Ten years later, here I am coming off a stretch of life, where my work has been so stressful that I have given up going to the gym.  I'm exhausted and low.  Right now I am thinking about alternative strategies.  And if I decide to leave my job, I know the first place I will go is back to bodybuilding.  I want to to feel good again, eat right, look good, take time to enjoy.  As the Romans used to say, mens sane in corpore sane.  A healthy mind emanates from a healthy body.

Let's not forget about the positive healthy place bodybuilding came from and what it gives to thousands (millions) who practice the lifestyle in a sensible way every day.  Sure, I enjoy the physiques of the freaks.  Maybe at some level I am a hypocrite.  These men and women appeal to and inspire the rest of us, and sadly they make sacrifices in their own lives.

My prayer on this Christmas Day is for more BALANCE in bodybuilding.  The powers in the sport could play a role, but I don't have much confidence given the commercial nature of our society.  It really comes down to small choices that each of us can make in our lives every day.

Mike

First of all, there exists an apparent never-ending confusion on the meaning/definition of the term “bodybuilding”!  Bodybuilding (BB) really should be defined as including all individuals who weight-train to improve their appearance, health, strength, and athletic ability.  Of course, using such a definition of BB would include several million practitioners, worldwide!

With the advent of the Weiders' mag. "propaganda", with their heavy commercialized mag. articles/ads/contest-reporting in recent decades, the term “bodybuilding” has been subverted to focus only on professional bodybuilding.  Of course, pro. BBers make up only a very SMALL fraction of the legions of millions of bodybuilding practitioners (hardly even 1%, I am sure)!

Like any discipline/lifestyle/“sport”/activity, you are always going to have a few miscreant practitioners who give every other clean-living, drug-free/natural, accomplished, good-citizen, law-abiding, bodybuilding practitioner a “black-eye” with their socially unacceptable behavior…e.g. illegal drug use/trafficking, burglaries, gang-activities, murder, etc.!!

Yet, despite… the blatant lies and drug-use cover-up, perpetuated by the bodybuilding mags.; the pro. BB male chemical monsters and “she-he’s” receiving heavy mag. publicity;  the ‘roid-rage psychos running loose in society-some even posting to Getbig; illegal drug dealers/users, murderers, other criminals, etc., who practice BB and receive sensational media/press… these serious negative aspects associated with BB are greatly overshadowed by the highly POSITIVE aspect of having millions of successful worldwide practitioners of BB (e.g. “recreational" BBers, like myself)!!

These millions of socially-responsible, “good-citizen”, estimable, recreational, BBers use BB as a regular tool to help live more productive, healthier, stronger, longer, lives, with a greatly improved relative physical appearance, generally speaking, when compared to the non-bodybuilding, non-exercising, general public.  In other words, using BB as a means to a worthwhile end(s0, and not just an end in itself!!

Ron Williams Achieves Victory in Las Vegas

   Ron Williams

I am pleased to announce that noted natural bodybuilder and Synergy spokesman Ron Williams has won several prestigious bodybuilding contests held in November in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In the Mr. Natural Olympia VII contest, Ron placed first in the Masters Men Overall and the Masters Men Short. In the Mr. Natural Universe contest, Ron won the Masters Men Overall, Masters Men Short, and Open Men Overall. As a living legend in the natural bodybuilding arena, Ron surprised everyone—including the president of the American Bodybuilding Association—by returning to the competition and winning several prestigious titles.

These contests are sponsored by the American Bodybuilding Association, which is dedicated to the advancement of natural bodybuilding and fitness competitions. All contestants must be tested for substances banned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and any contestants who test positive are banned from the association. Ron proudly uses Synergy products because he knows they contain only healthy, safe, natural ingredients that promote well being and enhance natural health.

Ron is a world-famous authority on natural health, exercise, and fitness. His revolutionary Synergy for Life program is not just a diet, supplement program, or exercise routine—it’s a blueprint to total health and longevity. The Synergy for Life program includes the “Synergy for Life” book, two CDs, a measuring tape, an exercise book log, a nutritional book log, a Ron Williams resistor (a strong rubber band), a door connector, and a carry bag.

Ron holds over 200 bodybuilding titles and has developed two patented pieces of specialized exercise equipment. Ron is also the pastor of a nondenominational church, “Back to the Foundation,” in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has been a spokesman for Synergy WorldWide since its inception in 1999. Ron retired from teaching exercise physiology, diet, and nutrition in order to spread the world about Synergy products and their beneficial effects for improving overall health and fitness.

Feel free to follow this clickable link to read more about Ron Williams, or this one for more info on Synergy

Hope you found this positive,  :)
