Protein-enhanced bread. P28, any others?
« on: September 05, 2013, 10:13:57 PM »
For some odd reason, I decided to search for bread with high protein content, I came across this:

https://www.p28foods.com/baked-goods/p28-high-protein-bread

At around $6 per loaf, it's far from the cheapest option, but it has about 14 grams of protein per slice!

Has anyone tried P28?  Are there any better / cheaper alternatives out there?

Sorry, never heard of this brand.

Other high protein breads I've seen have extra wheat gluten added for the extra protein. Probably the same gluten they extracted from wheat to make gluten-'free' wheat starch.

Just my opininion, but if seeking extra protein to add to the diet, I would not look to bread.

It does have whey protein listed as the 2nd ingredient which is good, but it also has wheat gluten added.  It also only has 2g fiber per slice - not good.  As Monty said, look for real protein elsewhere and if you're looking at bread, go for high fiber, preferably not from wheat.

Natural Ovens makes several around $3-$4

p28 bread tastes great.  A little more expensive than others, but definitely worth it.  The bagels and wraps are excellent too!  The only possible downside is the short-dated life.  I just buy a box of 6 at a time and freeze 5 because they only have a shelf-life of about 7 days.  Definitely worth trying.  Buy directly from the source as bodybuilding.com marks it up a good bit.
