I bet you got some looks from people. In a more normal setting, the "tan" must look really unnatural. How long do these applied tans take to wear off? Does it stain whatever it touches, like your clothes and the bed sheets?

I get very dark when I tan, but it is nowhere near the shade of a fake tan.

That depends on the type of tanning. I only take spray tans. Over 95% flushes away after a shower with normal scrubbing, but the rest is sucked by your skin, so it can take 2-3 weeks when you don't scrub intensely.
Even dried, it leaves some spots, so it's important to wear baggy, dark clothes.

Seems as if darker is better. If this is true, then I understand it. Black folks have a definite advantage in well lit competitions by nature of their skin tone. That being said, even dark skinned folks sometimes use a tanning product to even out their skin tone.

I think when people see him on stage, the least they care about is the colour of the tan.

When i competed having a nice tan under the posing lotion does help alot. The brand of posing lotion also can make you look great or very bad.
