i don't get the five guys hype... it's okay, but i've always preferred the real, grimy, nasty FAST FOOD fast food burgers: mcdonalds, dicks (if you've been to seattle, you know what i'm talking about), in-n-out, etc.

these sort of "in between" fast food / regular restaurant hybrids like five guys, carls junior, red mill (again, seattle), etc. don't impress me.  more high-end burgers (at real restaurants) can be really good, but it somehow just doesn't seem right... like burgers are just meant to be cheap, dirty food that goes straight to the gut in a hugely pleasing, very unnatural way.

I get your point but those dudes are doing it for performance enhancing effects whereas the fast food places are doing it just so they can sell you pieces of meat so wretched my dog wouldnt eat it, without a care to how it affects ones body.

plus the shit they add is way more carcinogenic than steroids

No I agree, I like nothing more than some mcdoubles and fries once in a while and if I knew this Ammonia stuff I'd probably think twice. My point is that if something is not 'FDA approved' it doesn't automatically make it unapproved by humans. I enjoy eating a lot of african dishes that my friends make, but if the government stood in the kitchen and watched them prepare it they would tell me I can't eat it, it's not 'fit'. It tastes great!
