Settle down, Freud. The original was aces. One of only two books that I ever paused with and said *whoa.* If the sequel is half as good, then we're away.

Sounds promising, but I long ago gave up on Stephen King. Read maybe one that I liked (The Green Mile, which I really liked) and a few others that I thought were quite silly. I couldn't even finish The Stand, which is supposed to be everyone's favorite. Just quit on it about 400+ pages in.

Am I missing something with him?

Nope. I'm with you. Dude's a monstrously-talented author, but sometimes less is more. His ego and his publisher fail to see this.  Of his oevre (sp?), I'd love me some 5-7 books.

kings monuental saga on roland the gunslinger is the most epic piece ever written.

but damn, he had some shit books too.

that under glass or jfk and the short stories in general, my goodness those sucked

How long does it take to get into those books?  First several pages seem pretty nerdy

The story of Roland Dashaine is awesome, and how he ties it into his other books like salems lot, hearts of Atlantis, the stand is there any I'm missing that tie into the gunslinger universe

You must be joking. His short stories definitely do not suck, have you ever read Nightshift?

His early novels are ok considering that Stephen King is to literature what McDonalds is to food.
