To me, it's about marketability - They know the winner will be on the front of magazines, will be doing TV interviews, etc.  We will never see a Mr O with the kind of baggage that would hurt the marketability of the sport.   Think of the people who were seriously robbed for O titles over the past few years... Cormier, Vic, Kai, Wheeler.... There were years when Dorian or Ronnie or even Jay were NOT the best physique onstage, yet they won the title.  

Maybe I'm wrong and that original wording of "the best representative of the sport" isn't valid anymore.  I haven't seen anything to the contrary.  It's the same way Dwight Howard had to fight through so many horrible calls to make it to the NBA finals - the league wanted LeBron vs Kobe that year.  They stand to make millions more and avoid the black eye of an idiot like Dwight Howard winning the title and acting like a dick.  Kobe and Lebron are polished, polite and respectable.

MAYBE this isn't the case.  But I've yet to see the title go to a dude with any kind of criminal history, G4P, etc - even when their physique was better.  Kai SHOULD win this show.  Watch and see - he'll be bigger and more peeled, and will probably place below Jay.  Maybe I'm just a conspiracy theorist tho, who konws.

Phil is doing morning TV shows, sporting events, boxing matches, all that.   Jay used to - seems like he's using the "Videotape every waking moment" approach to connect with the most fans and rally the fanbase the best.  Kai?  He USED to be a hermit, hiding out and getting in shape.  NOW?  Now he's doing the same movies, tv shows, interviews, etc - he's learning to do what Phil does.

Haney, Labrada, Levrone, they all USED to use this phrase all of the time in interviews also - a 'dog whistle' of sorts to alert those in the sport that they cared deeply about being the best face for the sport.
