Apple Pear
« on: September 25, 2013, 11:44:38 AM »
also known as the Asian Pear.

Quite tasty.  Very crunchy.  As the name indicates, kinda (tastes like) a cross between an apple and pear with a hint of watermelon.  Kinda $pricey$ ~ along the lines of Honeycrisp apples (which are over-priced IMO).  Give them a try.  Great chopped up in a salad.

This is how you'll usually see them in the store.  They must bruise easily :-\

They bruise easily.

Thanks for reminding me. It's been quite a while since I've had these.

When I was stationed in Japan I would get these all the time off base but over there they are 3x bigger and not as gritty. Think grapefruit size seriously. It was great on hikes and all since they are so "juicy" so it satisfies hunger and thirst to a degree.
