Shawn Rhoden
« on: September 28, 2013, 01:11:57 PM »
If it were up to me, I would give it to Shawn.

It's a bodybuilding contest and out of the bulk of the competitors, he is one of the very few that brought a balanced physique with great conditioning and flow.

His build is aesthetically pleasing.

By himself he looks ok. But when he stands next to the the top 5 he disappears.

He looks great, better than last year! Would have no problem if he won the Olympia!

Looks incredible from the front and especially when standing alone.
His back needs work.  Should still place ahead of Kai.

Size wise, sure..

But is that really as important?  I see too many of those guys looking like bloated messes.

Proportion, symmetry, balance and how aesthetically pleasing a physique looks should be more important than how big a competitor looks.

Again, just my opinion, I could be looking at it the wrong way.

Here's a question, One. We're all schmoes, here - we get that. We get the 'attractiveness' thingy and the  'photo-op' stuff,  but is there any extra 'quotient' that a gay guy can bring/intuit to the equation? I ask as this seems to be the first Rhoden thread. Wondering in Getbigland, doc.

Looks like the old Vic but without the oil. Gets lost in the shuffle but I feel the same way. Size is getting awarded way too much. Everyone in the open class looks like shit. This is the BEST in the "sport"? :-\

I am not sure.

What I am thinking is that the original purpose of bodybuilding has probably morphed into something completely different.

As a young kid, I would read about Arnold Schwarzenegger competing in the Mr. Olympia, alongside guys like Zane, Mentzer, Robinson, Nubret etc. and I would always comment to my friends how much balanced and statue-like proportions those men were able to achieve. It was not so much about who was the freakiest, but moreover who embodied the "sport" better.

Many of the guys I see today lack proportion, are strong in a select group of body parts and/or just look like they do not embody the essence of "bodybuilding".

Fuck that, maybe I am having my period or something... Just not that impressed this year.

Rhoden has the kind of physique anyone other than an IFBB judge would give their left nut to have. Problem is the judging lost it's way a long time ago and they can't figure out a way to go back to the way things are supposed to be.

The ambiguity of the pronoun's referent leads me to believe that you would. ;D

You know, I thought of you yesterday.

I was watching Star Trek into Darkness with Benedict Cumberbatch starring as Kahn Singh and it made me remember how spectacular of a character he was.

He is! Loved him in Parades' End. Amazing! I'm still going to go on and suggest that you suffer from performance issues.

If that's the case then Shawn , flex, levrone and even Nasser should have won at least one  ::)

You don't think so Sev?

Comparatively speaking when looking at the other guys, he looks to be in good condition.

he loks like flex only from front.

from the back, flex had best back genetics ever to grace a stage, while rhoden...

Lacks thickness, and his back fades away right in the middle...
At this level, this is unacceptable.
