I hate the Red Sox, but that call tonight was fucking horrible.  Jim Joyce was the prick who called it, the same Jim Joyce who fucked Armando Galaraga out of a perfect game with 2 outs in the 9th back in 2010.

The call was correct.

Quote
The rule can be found in the Official Rules of Major League Baseball, Section 2.00, Definition of Terms:

"Obstruction is the act of a fielder who, while not in possession of the ball and not in the act of fielding the ball, impedes the progress of any runner.

"Rule 2.00 (Obstruction) Comment: ... After a fielder has made an attempt to field a ball and missed, he can no longer be in the 'act of fielding' the ball. For example, an infielder dives at a ground ball and the ball passes him and he continues to lie on the ground and delays the progress of the runner, he very likely has obstructed the runner."

If by definition the call was correct, the rule needs to be changed.  You should have to been in the baseline in order to be interfered with.  Plus, it was incidental contact.  I stand by my story.  That call was BULLSHIT!

The throw was stupid and Middlebrooks not coming off the bag to at least knock the ball down was even worse...

Whether contact is intentional or incidental is irrelevant.  The runner is entitled a clear path to the next base.

Out of the baseline?  Lol, ok....

The last few games have ended in strange ways. First an interference, then a pick-off.

Good series so far.

The baseline argument is interesting...Watching guys take a lead off 3rd base could be argued that they are out of the baseline...Whoever started doing that did it so they could not be called out if a ball off the bat hit them because he's in foul ground...Where is the baseline when a runner rounds a base? We've all seen guys go over 10 feet(seemingly) out of the baseline...How about a guy who misses home plate and is walking back to the dugout and realizes he missed the plate so runs back to to touch it?
