They are both well known bodybuilder with supplement contracts.  And together they only lived in a 407K house?  Man think of how many BBers out there juice, do everything to put their health in jeopardy devote their life to BB and one of the few that made it to the pro's and actually was decent only could afford a 407K house even with his wife, an elite fitness pro, helping out too.

Vanity is what keeps this sport going.  Its certainly not worth the risks and effort to make it to the big leagus.

And I am not talking about BB as a lifestyle, i mean competing/juicing etc

Hello? He is a pro bodybuilder, not a pro basketball, football or baseball player...... :-\

I think some and I think all new casinos are required to re-use their water.  All pond or water feature water is recycled waste water.    As is sprinklers, waterfalls, and I think toilet water.  Anyone remember back in 2000 when Lake Mead was being polluted with the toilet water from the casinos.  Something happened where sewage water was being dumped back into the lake.

They had a very interesting show on one time when I lived in Vegas.  It was a very bad future for Sin City.  It is growing so fast that it will outgrow its resources in 10 to 15 years.  The water table is just not there to provide water for 1+ million people.

Oh, they'll be okay.... they'll just have to pipe the water in from somewhere else (which of course will be costly, but can be done). Where do you think L.A. gets its water from, its own water table??

Victorville and other counties near there get there water from Lake Mead as sone some of Arizona.  Lake Mead supplies allot of areas not just Vegas.  Plus the electricity and smog in Vegas is excessive.  I love Vegas and miss it but I hope they pull through.  Right now they are at a high.  So many people are movng there.  10 years ago they had half the people that are there now.  In 10 years it will double again.  It can only get so big before something happens.

I find this discussion of real estate in Vegas to be pretty interesting.  Is there a big discrepency in property values depending on what neighborhood you are in?  I ask this because I did a few quick searches for real estate there and found a .63 acre lot in Henderson (I assume that neighbors Vegas) for 1.1 mil (no house, just the property).  On the other hand there are a lot of homes for far less than this amount.

Where I live 400k will buy you a parking space.  If you get lucky you might find a studio for that amount.

In general, I agree, but because of the nature of desert living, as long as they can keep laying pipe, they can continue spreading for miles and miles.

I attempted to live in the desert and for the life of me, I just don't understand the appeal.  I mean, for old folks, I get it, but for young couples with kids, it makes no sense to me.  I need trees, four seasons, and GRASS.

Same here, but where I'm moving, $400,000 will buy you a over 4000 sq feet on 3/4 acre in a great neighborhood.  That's the kind of life I'd prefer.

NOT.  Two seasons - wet and dry.  And my kid's mom claims *I'm* not "balanced".  Psychotic wench.   >:(

"Winter" in Houston means it is in the high 60's instead of the high 90's, yet somehow people here still like to claim we have 4 seasons.  ::)

So proximity to the strip causes one to pay a premium for land?  I have never been to Vegas, so I am not familiar with the layout (except for that fact that I am aware that there is a strip that is home to many of the casinos).

Aside from the casinos, shows and fights, what is the draw to Vegas?  Is there any industry/market other than the entertainment market and the resulting ancillary industry?

If moving to a place like that works for you than that's great.  I just couldn't deal with the commute.  I guess that is why a lot of people maintain two homes.

las vegas today can be compared to destinations like Disneyland.  only it's a municipality not a theme park.  there are lots of land use challenges in las vegas and i imagine the zoning board meetings can be quite lively.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear.  I meant what is the draw to living in Vegas.  I understand the appeal to visiting there, but it seems like a lot of people are moving there.  While I might like to visit Disneyland, I would only move there if they let me living in the Castle.

(I should proof read my posts - they would make more sense)

I meant what is the draw to living in Vegas.

The same reason people are moving from SoCal and the Rust Belt to other cities in the south and southwest like Phoenix, Denver, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando and many others ... low cost of living coupled with reasonable economic opportunities resulting in a higher standard of living.

So there is industry to provide reasonable economic industries outside of the entertainment field (and resulting ancillary businesses)?

Call me crazy, but that means a lot to me.  I don't understand people like my daughter's mom who "don't get it".

She's one of those people who thinks she's rich just because she lives near rich people.

I love Vegas and I loved living there.  I am pretty sure my lifestyle there wasn't normal but there are allot of things to do in vegas.  I love Lake Mead.  Any water sport you can think of.  Hoover Dam is awesome.  The casinos are a ton of fun especially since so many exhibit a different theme.  Plenty of amusment parks.  Unlimited restaurants.  I like the heat.  But it does get really cold there.  In fact it snows on the strip sometimes which is really neat. Plenty of night clubs and strip joints.  Chicks everywhere.  Snow skiing less than an 1.5 hours away at Mt Charleston.  Unnlimited off road possibilities.  It is a fun place to live.  And cheap as anything.  I am used to living in the most expensive place in the country so when I moved to Vegas for a couple years I was in heaven.

dont forget the low prices at restaurants, all the gay bars, many churches, t-shirt shops, korean jewelry stores and highend shopping malls.

the downside  i saw poor addicted people hitchiking holding infants
