For those that don't know who or what he was , Bobby Jones was the only golfer to win the grand slam and he did it back 75 years ago. He was one of the most respected class acts in any sport. He refused to compete as a pro or take money for playing golf despite many chances (the big events were pro ams back then). He lost the US Open by one stroke after calling a penalty on himself that amazed everyone. When asked why he would risk winning by doing this he replied, " I don't know any other way to play this game." He founded the golf course known as Augusta National the location know today as the "The Masters". He was humble and said he played for the pure love of the game and competition with dignity and mutual respect. At the start of his career he earned two college degrees while playing , the 2nd a law degree which was how he made his living. He spend his days in the promtion of the sport he loved, lawyer and devoated husband and father. He served in WWII as fighter pilot and died a tragic death in 1971 due to a neurological spinal based disease at his home in Atlanta.
No, I don't play gold nor am I much of a golf fan. I was watching his bio movie on HBO recently and was blown away with his life story.
