The only way an elite boxer will win is if the elite boxer was a half way decent wrestler. Without any wrestling back round, he'll just get taken down. And once down its over...

Nick Diaz had a pro boxing match some years ago, won by KO. There are others that have had a go.

Tyson has become a bit modest with age but we all do, but there is not a MMA fighter on the planet who could attack Tyson in his prime upright, throwing punches.  Tyson connects with one shot and the match is over.  Ask Mitch Green and the three Yahoos who tried to assault him at a hotel elevator.  I 'm talking a straight bull rush, not sliding down the the ground and grabbing for his knees and ankles.  Now, with trained wrestling at Kurt Angle;s levels he could fend off some of the ground stuff.  You are not going to shack off two to three impact shots from Tyson.  It's just not happening.

What everyone seems to forget is, aside from the Gracies, there were no really exceptional ground fighters back in 93. Everyone fought to represent their respective discipline, whether it be TKD, Shotokan, Kung Fu, Kuk Sool etc and the fighters werent anywhere near as complete as they are today. Its evolution, but Tyson entering the original format of UFC could have been very successful because it was NHB and traditional martial artists would have almost no idea how to defend against combinations like he would throw.

well, doesn't anderson silva train as a boxer also?  he doesn't just step in the ring for boxing matches raw, so why can't tyson prep with a wrestler to cover his ground game?  that's not artificial, realistic in a real world. he's not going to step in an octagon or whatever they call it raw.

GCD makes a cracking point

in the original UFC/UFC's type events i recall a ninjitsu expert versus a sumo or similarly mad. it was all about seeing which martial art would fair better. it has since developed into its own fighting system.

UFC- tyson would have webbed everyone except gracie if gracie took him down. also lets not forget they were often single round fights. so a top groundsman like gracie could hang in for ages on end waiting for an opponent to make a mistake.

that said i think tyson would have killed someone in the octagon back then. and broken his hands in the process

The top UFC guys would get knocked out if they were in a boxing match with top boxers. Top boxers would be taken down and submitted quickly if they have no wrestling experience.

Further more a guy with a sword would take out both boxers and UFC guys. A guy with a hand gun would take out the sword guy. A rifle guy could reach out and touch the hand gun guy. A mortar guy  will take out the rifle guy. Artillery will take out the mortar guy. Do I have to keep on going?

A better question is who would win in a fight? Batman or Tarzan?
