Can Arnold "be back on top" in Box office report?
« on: October 20, 2013, 09:15:34 AM »
Can he have another blockbuster Hit?
Why is his popularity fading?

Some say teenagers don't even know who he is cause last time Arnold was relevant (ten years ago when he did terminator 3) they were little kids .....

But also people say that Arnold started falling long before that; movies like 6th day and Colateral Damage didn't do well cause even then he was looking old tired ....

Will he be back on top one more time ?

Wooosssshhhhhhhhhh

Too many pussyfooting feminists and liberal moviegoers these days.

Actionheroes like those we had in the 80s just aren't as popular as they were before, and i don't think they ever can be in the way society is changing.

They either want Leads that show emotions, Female Leads or Coloreds these days

I thought End of Days was great, I think arnold needs to take on darker roles kinda like you see Mel Gibson do, with extremely flawed characters.  I think bringing him back to take on predator would be great along with a self sacrificing ending.  The Maggie movie actually sounds kinda promising.

Closest must be The Rock.

It's the only "physical" actionhero that has some similarities with the Heroes of old (80s)

The others are just not comparable in any way

Tobey McGuire... LOL

problem with Ahrnold is.... he no longer has the body/presence that sold those films, now he keeps wrapped up and has to get by as an actual 'actor'

lets be honest, he couldnt act in a million yrs, he's getting by, by name alone..

old wrinkly guy running around chinning young bucks, come on, lets get real...almost as pathetic as Frank Sinnatra playing a 'kid' when he was nearly 50!

liam [the nose] neeson is still an action star and draw although near 60 because he can actually act not rely on a few one-liners, and lame catch phrases. 'you hit like a vegetarean'. ::) ::) ::)      ::) ::) ::)      ::) ::) ::)

When Arnold and Sly first came back with the Expendables there was a certain charm to it.  As a later 30s gen x'er I enjoyed seeing action stars from my youth going out and having fun.  It was campy but nostalgic.  Then it was Bullet to the Head, Rambo 5, the Last Stand, Rocky 6, Expendables 2, Die hard 5 and now this movie and another Terminator and another Conan...its gone from tongue in cheek fun to kinda sad.
Ill still rent Escape Plan on bluray but Im not shelling $25 bucks to take the wife.  That's 50 rounds of 7.62x54 ammo :)

I think thats the cruel sad answer...

Let's check how "young" were the ones that beat Arnold and Sly this weekend.

1- Gravity- George Clooney 52 years old
2- Captain Phillips- Tom Hanks 57
3- Carry- Julian Moore 52
4- Cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2- (cartoons)
5-Escape Plan Arnold & Sly.

So they were all big names and over 50 years of age ... without his physique,Arnold is competing for top honors based on his acting skills.

He won't recover, or be back on top ....

Time to leave your legacy as it is.

there is one big factor and that is lionsgate hardly promoted the last stand or escape plan, here in the uk there were barely any trailers for either seen on tv. The 4 I saw for escape plan were after midnight when audience levels are low. General awareness was none existent, they were relying on people going online and seeing the trailers or stills and not everyone is going to search up this stuff.
If lionsgate promoted these films like they do the expendables which aims for the same audience it would be a different story.

Yeah it's not like you see the same PR for Arnies current movies as we did for Commando, Total Recall, Terminator 2-3 etc

in escape plan the whole audience lapped up arnolds scenes he stole the show, when he wasn't there you missed him. He had some great lines and one hilarious moment the cinema loved. he absolutely still has the presence, natural charisma and physique to carry on.

it's more a thriller not an action film so there is bits you miss that a second viewing would answer questions that might be niggling.
The plot is simple, makes perfect sense.
