youre right.  I LOVE it when you are chatting with a person you've known for months and they skip the meat, and THEN you learn they're a longtime vegetarian.  Its like, THANK YOU for not telling me that long ago.

I grew up in the rural south. We were herded (pun intended) to a slaughterhouse in 7th grade.

And the clinical detachment that most meat eating humans have from the actual killing is one of the reasons that I am a big supporter of hunting. At least I know and live with the moral implications of the game I take for food.

It definitely is something most people should experience IMHO.

Shockwave, I think they do something like that in Japan, but first they give that damn cow a two hour massage and then buy her a couple of beers.

Then they chop her head off with one of them there Japanese swords.

Yes, we did. My son's godfather is a vegetarian. He came about it honestly: he worked his way through college and grad school working the kill floor in a slaughterhouse. Can't fault the guy there. He NEVER tries to sell it to others.

The western world is slowly sterilizing itself for free. Look at Italy, the cradle of western civilization, they have a birth rate of 1.0 children per couple, far below the replacement rate of 2.1. This means that instead of many grandchildren to care for their grandparents, you have 4 grandparents, 2 parents and one child. An invertd pyramid.

Compare/contrast to eastern "civilization" (middle eastern). Let's even compare it in Italy. The average birth rate to middle eastern immigrants in Italy is roughly 8 per couple. It doesn't take a demographic savant to realize that native Italians will be an electoral minority in less than 12 years.

In the US, our birthrate is just barely at 2.1, but the immigrant masses come here and maintain an 8.0. Our demographic shift is less steep, but the numbers don't lie.

So, let's NOT pay folks to sterilize, unless we want to make it part of the immigration contract. THAT, I might be able to get behind.

Yeah, I'm aware.  I figure that the people that would accept cash to undergo sterilization would be the third world immigrants,  and those lowest members of society who have no problem reproducing.
