My wife and I met a nice and funny South African couple vacationing in Thailand when we were there about 2 years ago.  (We met them when we overheard them quietly ripping on this really weird Burmese family that was on the same boat with us on the way to Koh Tapu -- I thought I might piss myself at some of the funny shit they were both saying.)  Really sucks that something might happen to them.

That's odd, a friend of mine, a rich, white, anaesthesiologist from Manhatten who regularly travels back and forth between NYC & Manhatten has made no such mention of any racial tensions that he's seen. In fact, he was actually planning on moving there. He says he absolutely loves it there.

My theory is, your friend just doesn't have the heart to tell you that Mandela and his ilk have failed and South Africa as a nation is as good as dead.  And you don't have the strength of character to be honest about South Africa.  You need to believe that South Africa is a racial and economic paradise.  Fact is, it's a shit whole of violence and poverty and this will not change.

Bit of a thread bump here but are you 110% sure your cousin guarded Mandela? Careful now with exposing yourself because I know one of his body guards very very well. It can easily be verified. He guarded him till 1998. He can be seen on many videos and pictures of Mandela.
