It wasn't an assault rifle. That is a term of art referring to a select-fire capable battle rifle. Most likely it was some cosmetically-challenged semi-automatic rifle.Actually, given the press' track-record on accuracy with guns, it was just as likely to be a flintlock musket. And we don't need them, we are guaranteed them by the Constitution to the United States of America.Thanks.
It isn't just journalists. It's cops that get it wrong all the time too.http://bearingarms.com/west-palm-beach-pd-claims-suspect-shot-by-officers-had-ak-47-shows-m1-carbine-ak-magazine-and-5-56-bullets/The dude in FL was killed for supposedly producing this:For the uninitiated, that is a M1 Carbine "Para" with a folding stock. The magazine next to it is an old soviet AK-47 mag. It can't fit in the gun. And to add to the levity, the pile of ammunition is all 5.56 x 45, the standard round of the M-16/M-4 variants. It can't fit in the magazine that can't fit in the gun. Now, what happened here? Don't know. All I know is that the cops produced a non-lethal pile of parts and proclaimed it enough to have killed a man. And the press, with ZERO knowledge of anything regarding firearms, laps it up.
Arce will be picking up several individuals tonight.
